Great story!
And yet, BYU's quarterbacks (at least those who start more than 1 or 2 games in their career) seem to not go on missions.

Stive Young served a mission
Dear sfcretdennis: Steve Young did NOT serve a mission. He went home for Christmas his freshman year intending to put his papers in a go. He was told in a blessing by his Bishop that he was not to go on a mission, but was to return to BYU and play football.
Each individual needs to be on the path that the Lord has for him/her. Some are to serve two-year missions and some are to take another path. It is not for us to judge that path if the Lord has designated otherwise.
Interesting topic: my 15 year old son, who is not too excited about a mission has to prepare a lesson for tomorrow. He asked me what he should teach and I said "about serving a mission, there may be others who are not sure about it. The lesson in the manual pounded Pres. Kimball "Every young man should serve a mission". Well, one with a testimony and good health, the lesson specified! I am glad I went, and my dear hubby served too.
