this is how it is supposed to work but way to often it does not. I have never had that type of service done for me and i have been completely active for over 20 yrs
LDS are very good about taking care of each other.
But they are horrible about blessing the lives of non-members (such as myself).
"For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them. And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same." (Luke 6:32-33)
LOVE IT!
This is life in Relief Society. However, I suspect it comes to those who have 'done it' more than to those who have not. I am so happy for Margaret and am assuming she has been the giver in many ways to many people in her life.
Today my visiting teacher gave me more than a meal and a bunch of diapers, Costco food and new clothes. She gave me an hour and a half of listening. I could see her stifling several yawns and I just couldn't stop my mouth from going on and on. We have never needed meals, new baby or not. But I have needed sweet, patient visits. I didn't think I had the time or need but I did and they were great.
Thank you my daughters, my friends, my Visiting Teachers and my visiting teachees. Thanks to all the kind people who pass my way with a smile or a kind word.
If we look we can find blessings and service have come our way from many of Heavenly Father's children.
Or we can gripe about what we think we've missed.
Have at it.
You know, Texas Angel, most of us haven't received that kind of service either. But I think that's great! Hopefully I'm on the other end GIVING it. (But I don't do it to that extent either!)
And I hope that "Atheist" is giving service to others.
The best VT visit I ever had was when I was expecting #5 and my 2 dear friends showed up to teach me a message. They took one look at my house, another at my face, and spent the next 1/2 hour folding laundry! What a blessing we can be to each other :-)
