Utah: Exploding job growth.

Texas: Exploding job growth.

Anyone else see a pattern as to where business choose to hire employees and grow? Just sayin...

Huntsman and Perry are going to have a much easier time campaigning in the coming months compared to Obama...

Glad the 700 jobs are coming. However, will be very glad when states stop falling all over each other to grant tens of millions of dollars in incentives to lure companies. It's turning into a higher and higher stake auction and there has to be a limit somewhere. I think one company in my town was recently given millions in incentives to bring a handful of jobs and had to outbid Texas to do it.

That's what happens when you provde a business-friendly climate. It creates jobs and helps everyone. A rising tide lifts all boats. By contrast, the Obama Administation has done everything possible to discourage economic growth and new jobs. I hope a few people will start to catch on.

To "Cedarite | 6:34 p.m." actually, what the state is doing is very smart. Lets look at the numbers.

The company ECM Corp. will get $3.5 million in tax breaks, and hire 500 employees. Not all 500 employees will come from out of state, so first off it reduces unemployment. If the average unemployment check is $700/week, that means that in a year the state will save $36400 per person hired. Next, lets look at just the income taxes that the state will be able to collect. If their average salary is $50,000/yr that means that they will spend $25 million on salaries in a year. The state typically gets about 5% of those salaries from income taxes. That means that each year the state will get $1.25 million from income taxes. Now, if you add in property taxes, sales taxes, and other taxes and fees, the state will make up the $3.5 million in tax breaks in 3 years or less.

So, why shouldn't we be pimping out the state to get new businesses?

Be carefull working in flash memory. It's very volitile. I've seen employees move to Colorado, buy a house and then be told that instead of expanding, the factory is shutting down.

I'm sure the taxpayers of Utah had to promise all sorts of things to get Intel there. Not only no taxes but the taxpayers will be shelling out up front for jobs that could go away in a few years. It happened in Colorado with Intel allready. They have moved on to Utah. There's one born every......

Intel also has a lot of factories in Oregon. One of the west most liberal states. Only it's not flash, it's processors and factories that have stuck around for decades. Don't get sassy over a flash site.
