Charity or liberal advocacy front?
This is just further proof that the "United Way" has strayed very far from being an admired "bundler" of charitable contributions to be distributed among worthy causes. It is now little more than a liberal special interest group funneling money from unsuspecting donors into disproportionately liberal causes.
For several years I have refused to give to the United Way, or the Combined Federal Campaign which is essentially the same thing but aimed at fleecing federal workers.
It is much better to give generously to those charities that an individual likes, and avoid funding those which you do not want to support. And that avoids wasting your charitable dollars funding the United Way management overhead costs when you dollars go direct to operations you want to support.
You can't find closer peas-in-a-pod than United Way and the Chamber.
The "Utah compact" is a laughing joke. The bills pushed by the Chamber of Commerce never adhered to its "principles" It has made a lot of us Hispanics wary of the Chamber and its selfishness to exploit cheap labor.
Count me among those who consider it a plus that United Way considers the immigrant a just cause.
