I enjoyed this article and hope that other Mayors and public figures use this sort of contemporary forum to engage with the community and stay connected to their constituents.
The Deseret News may be on a slippery slope with this initiative.
Where does public information end and propaganda or political campaigning begin?
What about citizens who disagree with what their elected officials are doing? Will the Deseret News give them equal space in order to present their arguments?
Will this further enhance the power exercised by an influential and powerful civic elite-business-politico complex that sees the average taxpayer as a source of funding for its special interest projects?
Also, does this give incumbents an advantage over challengers who do not receive free newspaper space to get their messages out?
Depends on whether a mayor is using the articles to campaign or to correct bad press his city has received.
