It's way too early to take a poll on Pac-12/Independence. Wait until after Utah goes bowless and BYU is seen 12 times in one season on national TV.
It's way too early to take a poll on Pac-12/Independence. Wait until after Utah makes $18.75 million from TV revenue on ESPN & Fox (as the league will be announcing tomorrow) and BYU makes $2.5 million from some channel in the 4000's that runs scrapbooking ads at halftime.
Robin: There are many question marks regarding BYU's move to independent status. But exposure is not one of them. BYU is guaranteed multiple national games on ESPN with rebroadcast rights. Any of about 65 football games are currently available to stream on BYU TV. 1980 Holiday bowl, 2009 BYU-Utah, Lavell Edward's last game, BYU-USC in Vegas. They are all available right now. BYU TV is a solid platform and an unparalleled asset to the program.
BYU will have better distribution than any program in the nation for non-football/basketball sports. Baseball, softball, gymnastics will all be available world wide. I can imagine no better recruiting tool for an international volleyball player than "your mom will be able to watch the games on-line."
As far as football goes, Utah wins on income (barring consecutive BCS Bowls for BYU), but BYU is the clear winner in terms of exposure. More people will have access to, and more people will watch BYU.
"BYU makes $2.5 million from some channel in the 4000's that runs scrapbooking ads at halftime"
possibly the funnest post I've ever read.
@Floyd Johnson
Are you serious? Utah will be on ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, Fox, and Fox Sports EVERY GAME. BYU gets 3 games a year on one of the ESPN networks, the other 9 will be on The Knitting Channel. And yet you say BYU will have greater exposure? Wow, you guys really are delusional.
Brave Sir Robin
Still upset about basketball season I see. Thus the need to belittle others with hyperbole and ridiculous statements.
@In Stitches
There's still basketball in college?
BYU gets an automatic 3 games a year, Utah is guarenteed to play on ESPN at all, just because the contract has Pac 12 doesn't mean they all get the same exposure.
BYU is guaranteed at least 800,000 to 1.2 million per game shown on ESPN. Last I checked three home games are on ESPN and then you have the OLE Miss game on tv Texas on tv TCU on tv. That is at least six and probably more to come. ESPN has always picked up BYU games, especially when they're doing well. That adds up to alot more than 2 million, but hey you are a ute fan counting isn't your strong siut. BYU figures to make around $10 million dollars a year according to most experts figures. Yes utah will get more, once they are fully accepted into the Pac 12. They are not due to make this money for a few years. BYU made their own deal. There is no way utah could have their own deal. It took being accepted by a conference that has USC, Oregon etc.
