I appreciated your article. My wife and I serve in an inner-city ward in Oakland, CA. and are about to come home after 23 months. We have seen the miracle of conversion and lives changed for the better when members put forth the effort to get in the way of the less fortunate and rescue people with the gospel of Jesus Christ. President Ezra Taft Benson said:

The world would take people out of the slums, Christ takes the slums out of people, and then they take themselves out of the slums.

You see a few successes. Then your heart breaks as missionaries and members reach out to the less fortunate and they come so close then turn a deaf ear to that saving message and messenger. In Mark 14:7 the Lord says:
" For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good..."

Unfortunately it does not look like there will be a shortage of folks to help any time soon. More people should get their heads out of the Sports section and look a little closer at articles like yours. Thanks again and God Bless!
