Wait, I thought the PAC12 was only FOX sports regional? Sounds like ESPN just
can't get enough help'ns of the Utes.Once again, It's great to be a
Wait a second ... I'm so confused. Why is Utah being featured on ESPN and not
BYU?? I guess that exclusive contract doesn't mean a whole lot at the end of
the day. The Utes are the team the nation wants to hear about and to see on TV.
Spring Ball's not even over and the Utes are already way ahead of
the team in Provo as far as ESPN coverage goes.
Boring guy,I agree. It's almost overkill, ESPN blog has been
featuring the utes on a daily basis for the past 7 days. I mean there down to
talking about the best bars in SLC and the renewed rivalry with the Buffs.Only the naive would not recognise that Larry Scott is putting pressure
on the 4 letter network to promote his newest members and build the PAC12 brand.
I suspect Utah will recieve an embarrassing large amount of publicity on espn
for the next year or two.
hedge, and Boring Honestly, even I am getting tired of the continued
BYU bashing, and I can't stand BYU sports. You don't have to wish them well, I
certainly don't, but let's climb out of the cesspool of constantly harping on
them, you don't need to sink to the troll's level.
That's right Hedgie ... We have our own blogger at the four-letter network who's
already spent significant time in Salt Lake and has high hopes for the Utes in
their first season in the PAC. He's giving Utah more love and attention than
the local media. While Larry Scott's getting the Utes invaluable
national coverage that hundreds of potential recruits are seeing, I hear Karl
Benson is trying to do the same thing for WAC's newest "quasi" member.
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be working...:(
"He's giving Utah more love and attention than the local media."Boring guy,Ahmen brother. Actually it's refreshing to have
an unbiased opinion on the Utes. Ted Miller isn't a Utes slappy, far from it,
but he also seems like a blogger without a secret agenda or ax to grind.
Yawn!Utah fans giddy with excitement because the Utes are mentioned
a couple of times on the PAC 12 blog???Question for Utah fans, and
be honest:How many times did U check ESPN's PAC 10 blog last season
to see what it was saying about Washington State? That's what I
thought - ZERO!And that's how much attention the rest of the country
is going to pay to Utah this year, UNTIL the Utes actually DO SOMETHING in the
@BustersOhh wait a sec, are you talking about the Utes winning? I
don't think that's going to be a problem. What Urban Meyer said in 2004 is four
times as true today -- "You ain't seen nothin' yet!!"Though the competition is greater, we're still up against the likes of Cal,
Wash. St., Washington, ASU, and UCLA. That's not exactly Murderers Row.And they have a few tricks up their sleeves up on the Hill. Hmmmm, Norm
Chow comes to mind for starters...
Hard to believe the Ute fans are making such a big deal about being on ESPN.
They seem as excited as the first time I saw myself on TV as a kid. I guess
when you don't see your school much on ESPN, you get very excited about it. So,
congratulations for finally being on ESPN.But ask yourself, is this
appearance on ESPN because of the university or because of Urban Meyer? I
venture to say if it wasn't for Urban Meyer's visit, the ESPN cameras would be
dark in SLC.
ESPN directed Urban Meyer to go to SLC to cover the Utes. They knew a feature
on Utah will bring about high ratings. Hmmmm, with a camera crew so
close, it makes you wonder why ESPN didn't tape a story down in Provo at the
same time. I guess the action is up on the Hill nowadays...
Yeah CougFaninTX because there is so much on ESPN about BYU football; please.
Utah Football has been highlighted far more that BYU on ESPN this off season
practically on ESPN.com; this after all we had heard from Y fans that
independence was better because BYU and ESPN were partners; the truth seems to
be something far less impressive.
"And they have a few tricks up their sleeves up on the Hill. Hmmmm, Norm
Chow comes to mind for starters..."Earth to BoringGuy.Having watched Norm Chow coached games for years, BYU fans are very familiar
with Norm's "tricks", and so is every team in the PAC 12.Unfortunately for U, the Utes don't have a QB capable of executing all of
Utah featured on ESPN.Positive media exposure is always welcome.Thank you Coach Meyer!
This is exciting, but seriously, lets stop the byu-bashing.
"How many times did U check ESPN's PAC 10 blog last season to see what it
was saying about Washington State?"It's odd you mention that,
because I used to and still do search for "Cougars" on the ESPN site
and it always comes up Washington State, go figure!!
As I've read via Dnews articles and posts BYU and ESPn have strong
partnership.Let's look at the defintion of
"partnership":a cooperative relationship between people or
groups who agree to share responsibility for achieving some specific goal.It appears that spring practice will come and go and almost zero
"responsibility for achieving specific goals" I.e "exposure"
has been met.The truth is espn views the "partnership" as
a slight step up from womens softball. ESPN need odd hour filler and along came
BYU. If you think ESPN will spend anymore than what they spend promoting womens
softball you're sadly mistaken.
" ESPN need odd hour filler and along came BYU."Wait did
the all female Billiards league or the World Pinochle tour lose their ESPN
"Wait did the all female Billiards league or the World Pinochle tour lose
their ESPN contracts?"Who will be laughing when BYU makes more
TV money in 2011 then Utah, even in the Mighty Pac-XX? How many decades before
Utah's a full member of the PAC?
It is indeed good to be a UTE!
"Who will be laughing when BYU makes more TV money in 2011 then Utah, even
in the Mighty Pac-XX?"Well enjoy your one year on top of the
money pile!!! I personally don't care how much BYU rakes in.
Ibleedcrimson,One year? Ha! It's like 5 years until you're a
full-fledged member! Or is it even more than that?
I might be 10 years or 20 but it will be somehting you're not a member of a BCS
Every fan in the PAC-12 is excited about the new Divisions, the new members, and
especially the exposure. I'm a Washington fan living in Alabama, and if I get
to see my Dawgs more, I'm all for it. Oh, and BoringGuy, you'll find out that
the whole PAC-12 is a murderers' row. Nobody goes through the whole schedule
unscathed. Is Utah good? yep. Do they belong? sure do. But the days of
consistent 10 win seasons for you guys are gone. You'll be glad to win seven
and go bowling. If you do go undefeated some day, you'll have earned it.
Ibleedcrimson,Pretty typical Ute attitude. Just happy to be there.
Much like throwing parades for second place which you convince yourselves is
more prestigious than a National Championship!
"Just happy to be there"No actually just happy to be where
Y fans never will be. Go PAC-12
Re: Ibleedcrimson,"No actually just happy to be where Y fans
never will be."You mean like in National Championship Land?
Ahhh, poor little utes.
Why are you guys talking about byu who cares! Lets just talk Utah football.
Naked Truth,That was nearly 30 years ago. Give it up already. I
wasn't even alive in 1984.
I agree that there is way too much time spent on these comments strings
exchanging tired insults with one another. That being said, it is
interesting that ESPN is making a trip across the United States looking in on
roughly 20 football programs, and their new partner, BYU, isn't one of them.Maybe they will catch the Cougars at a later date, but if ESPN Tour
tee-shirts were going to print today, Provo isn't one of the stops. In my opinion, both schools will be fine. BYU will millions more from
football starting this fall, and Utah will have to wait longer for their big
money bump.BoringGuy,You may not think of "Cal,
Wash. St., Washington, ASU, and UCLA as murderer's row," but it's a lot
tougher than Colorado State, Wyoming, New Mexico, San Diego State, and UNLV.
Next year's Utah football schedule , particularly with two tough out of
conference opponents (Pitt and BYU) will almost certainly be the toughest one
they have ever played.I'm looking forward to see how things pan out,
but every Utah victory (and I hope there are a lot of them) will be truly
Oh, and bye the way, I suspect that Urban Meyer's connection with the University
of Utah may have helped the Utes make the tour schedule.
I love that Urban called Whit, "Brother Kyle," when he saw him, and
after Kyle referenced BYU, Urban said he still couldn't say it. That was pretty
Naked Truth:NCAA titles that have an asterisk next to them don't
count. You only had 36 votes in 84'. It was no way close to being unanimous.
Washington got like 19 votes that year. You didn't beat anybody all year that
finished in the AP top 25. You played the 5th place Big 10 team in the Holiday
Bowl. Should I go on? Or do you realized how pathetic that year was. Great
season, but not NC worthy. The BCS was formed because of BYU that year. So
please refrain from using that crutch. Compare that to Utah's season in 2008.
The Utes beat 4 top 25 teams. Not to mention TCU and Alabama were ranked in the
top 10 to end the year. We spanked Alabama in their own back yard in the Sugar
Bowl. Getting the picture now? We received 16 first place votes that year in
the Coaches poll to Florida's 46. If we were playing in 1984, we
would have been National champions. Not to mention there's the undefeated 2004
team. Please Y fans, please stop with the references to your
magical 84 season. Your case has no merit.
