it would be terrible if we got rose we want a coach for out of state.

    To Mormon Ute:

Footall is independent, all other sports are part of a conference.

It gave me great pleasure to cancel the mtn last night. By cancelling, DirecTV saved me $18.

They offered me a combined pkg with Showtime equal to $20 to keep the sports package.

I told them thanks, if I want showtime, I will order it, but cancel the mtn from my TV, period. Time to send the message....

If DirecTV is smart, they will cancel the mtn... Unless USU is picked up by the MWC.

BYU's basketball coverage is split with ESPN, but the boon is to the WCC, because all of their games will be on either network, basketball games will all be nationally televised.

That should help all WCC teams when it comes to recruiting.

Aside from the MWC mistakes, it did elevate recruiting for the MWC.

This deal with BYU and the WCC will help the MWC with recruiting, and make the WCC a better conference from top to bottom.

5 years from now, the WCC will pass the MWC.

The mistake is the MWC, who could have helped Utah and BYU, but instead dictated to both schools.

I believe you are correct about the BYU games not picked up by ESPN being on KBYU or BYU-TV. You seemed to be saying earlier that BYU would not have to share it's basketball TV revenue and that is not true, because they are in a conference.

Frankly, any TV deal that involves a major network is better than the mtn. So BYU and Utah are both getting better deals than they currently have in revenue and exposure.

Sorry you seemed to read that into what I wrote.

I understand that only football income is not shared with other conferences at BYU. I am under the impression that Football is the cash cow at most universities, and underwrite much of the other athletic programs. I believe BYU's basketball, both mens and womens programs cover themselves.

My point is BYU will not lose a coach they want to keep because of money.

I also have the understanding that all of BYU, and WCC basketball games will either be carried on ESPN, or KBYU. Not a bad deal.

    Veritas Aequitas,

I keep seeing you and many other BYU fans mixing up the BYU football TV deal with the Basketball deal they will have with the WCC. Basketball TV revenue is a conference deal with the WCC not exclusive to BYU so they will be sharing basketball TV revenue with their entire league. I've done the research on this, but it seems many of you BYU fans haven't.

It seems as though you are trying to make a case for the basketball team getting as good a deal as the football team and that is just not the case. When the WAC deal fell apart the athletic administration scrambled and ESPN helped them put together a deal with the WCC to salvage the viability of basketball and some of BYU's other sports. In effect, the other sports (including basketball) took it on the chin to make the football deal work. If the WCC didn't have a contract with ESPN, you'd be watching BYU basketball on KBYU at midnight on the weekends.

I'm hearing Rose/Dr. hill has dinner reservations later tonight to wrap up things. I guess Dr. Hill asked Rose what the soonest he can start. Rose's reply, " Friday Morning".

Wow, one is in SLC, the other in Denver, yet had dinner together?

    I'll be in Denver Saturday.

How about we meet at the SLC Pie Pizzaria for lunch?

What is silly, is Rose is not even in the real conversation, unless Chris and Hedge can drum it up on the message boards.

    My question is:

Why not look at the real candidates, instead of trying to make it look like Utah has an option at the BYU coach.

If I remember correctly, Whitt was a coach at Utah when he turned down BYU.

If you can find me a BYU coach in the common era that went to Utah, bring that up...

There are so many great coaches out there that are turning down Utah.

There are so many good coaches out there that are turning down Utah.

I'm guessing that even Tommy Connor turned down Dr. Hill.

Chris Jones would probably take the job, and be fantastic.

Let's look for a Utah coach like Majerus... If not, Utah will be paying another coach not to coach.

I'll brush up my resume and send it in. I don't have any coaching experience but I'm dedicated, hard working, and am a good learner. I put in long hours and don't mind traveling.

Hey, I'd be fine if Rose went to Utah. I don't think that Rose is Dr. Hill's first choice, but if soooooo, it's all good.

But regarding your 6 point plan.

    1. Did not BYU sign a new multi-year ESPN deal that does not have to be shared $$$? BYU also is not paying off another coach. When does Utah get some of that PAC$$? Does Utah need $$ to expand RES?

    2. What makes you think he has a problem with the honor code?

    3. PAC vs WCC. Depends if he like to win with national exposure or lose with regional coverage. Which is better for recruiting?

    4. Relocation. Does he want to drive to the hill, or stay in Provo. Where does/did Boylen, Majerus, Whitt live?

    6. Prestige. He has the top 10 team in the country, great recruits coming in and missionaries in the pipeline.

If Rose wants to go, he should, but don't assume coaching at the bottom of the PAC is going to be the magical key. Many coaches have already removed their names from consideration.

    Tommy Connor has not, though...

I only disagree with one of your reasons, relocation. He will have to move from where ever he lives in Utah County or his wife and kids will never hear the end of it.

    Slim Shady 801,

I've done my research. I don't call what he did as WSU miracles. He did basically what Boylen did here. He had a couple of really good years and one mediocre year, then got the big offer from Virginia, but hasn't done anything there yet. I'm not saying he won't, but we need someone whose proven. After trying two guys with "potential" and having it fail. Chris Hill can't afford to do that again.

6 Reasons why Dave Rose will go:

    1. More money - BYU will not pay him what Utah is willing to pay. BYU athletics are low on the priority list. Hence, is why Kyle Whittingham stayed at Utah.

    2. No honor code - Won't have to worry about losing a top athlete for having pre-marital sex, or other honor code violations. that one really hurt BYU this year.

    3. Pac 12 - More lucrative than the WCC. Dave Rose didn't even have a say, because the descision was soley based around the football program.

    4. Recruiting - Still will win the in-state recruiting battle as the PAC 12 will be more attractive to recruits than the WCC. More exposure also.

    5. Relocation - Will not have to relocate his family. Will be a short commute each day to the hill.

    6. Coaching Prestige - Yes, Dave Rose is one of the best division 1 coaches in college basketball. He would have the potential of taking Utah back to the final 4. Some have even said that he is better than Majerus.

So there you have it. 6 really good reasons why Dave Rose will consider taking the job at Utah.

  • MiP Iowa City, IA

    Boylen did have class.

While in some circumstances I would advocate for a coach like Wojokowski (he could prove to be a steal)---do we really need another assistant from a top HC (Boylen: Izzo and Wojo: Coach K)?

Trent Johnson would be a top contender but doesn't seem to be willing to leave on on the hot seat (yet) at LSU.

They should look at Judkins from Dixie College or Scott Hunt from South Sevier.

  • BAS Draper, UT

I think we should go after Coach K (Duke) or Coach Williams (UNC)or perhaps Coach Self (Kansas). They have proven they can do the job in a major conference. If Tony Bennett is willing to come to the Utes, we should take him.

I'm not big on Mark Gottfried or Tony Bennett. Not enough consistency winning in major conferences. We need someone who has proven they can do the job in a major conference, because that's where we are going.

Oh you mean ChrisB's prayers won't be answered? Dave Rose isn't coming to the U? Sorry.

Good luck with whoever you end up with. Rice wouldn't be a bad choice but I hope all the Cougars stay in Provo!
