The VeggieTales have been a favorite of mine for years. I'm also a big fan of the Liken the Scriptures series of locally-made live-action musicals based on scripture stories.
If you like VeggieTales, do yourself a favor and check out Liken the Scriptures.
Barbara Manatee (manatee, manatee), you are the one for me (one for me)...
Growing up in Utah, I never heard of the Veggie Tales. But it's hugely popular on the East Coast! My kids love 'em, and my wife and I are pleased that they enjoy the stories.
I was introduced to VeggieTales by my Teenagers. We now own quite a few of the DVD's and my 5 year old LOVES Larry Boy. I have been suprised at some of the things I have learned from VeggieTales by watching them with my kids. We love them.
I LOVE the VeggieTales!! They feel more scripturally accurate than Living Scriptures. (You may disagree or not and that's up to you.) Veggie Tales are definitely more appropriate for preschoolers than Living Scriptures. Living Scriptures are full of examples of bickering, immodesty, pride, and all that, in a not-so-good/wholesome way. They add things in that aren't in the scriptures.
Whereas Veggie Tales don't try to be the scriptures, they hit the mark much more solidly. My first exposure to VeggieTale was watching King George and the Ducky. (Plot is King G has roomfuls of rubber duckies, but covets a neighbor's ducky, so he sends him off to the pie war to get creamed. A wise man comes in and tells him of a man who has a lot of animals, yet takes the sheep from the family who only had that, and King George is incensed and it is pointed out that he did exactly that with the yellow ducky.) I recognized the story of King David and Uriah & his wife and felt it was very, very appropriately told, considering that they are little kids who don't understand adultery(nor should!)
Just want to be clear that the Liken the Scriptures series I recommended are not animated, and are not affiliated with the Living Scriptures cartoons.
Liken movies are live-action musicals that show the scripture story through a child's imagination.
Our family has loved Veggie Tales since watching the Toy that saved Christmas over 10 years ago. It's one of the very few movies (series) I purchase and let my kids watch over and over. They are fun, creative and teach the values I'm also teaching (trying to teach) my kids.
One of the funnest parts are the silly songs with Larry that appear half-way through each 30 min video. They are completely random and entirely comical.
Mira el pepino......
My kids and now my grandkids love Veggie Tales. We use them in conjunction with scripture study to help the little ones. There also great fun for us adults!
I love Veggie Tales!
