I sure hope USU gets in.....they will keep improving in FB...they are better than NM & maybe as good as UNLV/Wyoming...but in Hoops, they will be right there with UNLV, SD State and New Mexico... in the top third of the conf every year maybe even challenging for the top spot...with Utah State that will give MWC a chance to have 3 teams in the tourney each year... I know BYU & SD ST are top 10 teams this year...but I think Ut St could give either of them a game (They already scared BYU)
USU should be in the MWC, but the ONLY reason MWC wants them is to keep the Utah market a part of the mtn ad revenue. MWC is a joke and will continue to falter under Thompson's leadership.
Yes, Aggies should fit well with mwc in all sports but the bad news is that the aggies going to have to play in the T&M Ctr for many years to come during tournament time.
Considering that 50% of The MTN's revenue comes from the state of Utah, USU is a must for the MWC. With the top 3 teams gone, I'm not sure The MTN can keep enough revenue coming in to stay solvent. I predict The MTN will fold within two years and MWC will be looking for a new media partner.
This really needs to happen for the Aggies as the WAC has become severely unstable. I honestly think things were better off before all of this crazy conference realignment stuff, but it is what it is. The Ags will compete well in basketball and are on the rise in football. It would be a fun change. Go State!!!
I just read on the tribune that this will not happen. MWC has decided to stand pat. This stinks for USU. It will be very difficule for them to build a football program without a legitimate conference to play in. I would like to think that they have to much class for the MWC or that the MWC is afraid of the Bball competition but USU really needs the MWC now.
I see no upside for the MWC with the addition of USU. Just what the conference needs is another poor at best football team to want a piece of the pie. I see nothing that USU brings to the conference. I think that the TV deal can possibly be tweaked somewhat and should be because of the membership changes and that this should be looked at before expansion is considered; especially with no really good candidates.
The MWC is dead anyway. After TCU is gone, what will they have - about 200 people to watch those telecasts? and teams with nobody in the stands.
