Archi-who?
The perfect pairing would have been Julie Andrews with the Choir....
As mother & daughter we feel incredibly blessed to have been able to travel to SLC from Baltimore to experience the Mormon Tabernacle Choir Christmas concert this year with David Archuleta as the guest performer. It was truly the most beautiful Christmas concert, the two of us will forever cherish the memories. Thank you!
I was at the Christmas concert with David Archuleta. It was amazing! I enjoyed every minute of the show. Thank you MOTAB for inviting him.
They're doing a good job of it because this year was the first time I saw the choir and it was because of David singing with them. Although I love all kinds of music and have bought the choir's albums in the past, I never thought of trying to get tickets to see them. The concert was amazing! I also wonder if those same ppl that were rolling their eyes at the thought of the choir singing with David still had that same attitude after the performance? His voice blended very well with the choir and orchestra without being drowned out by them and he sounded beautiful on his solo numbers.
A curious thought. I know the choir doesn't charge any fees or cost to attend any of their appearances but what happens to the profits from the commercial and retail sales of CD or other media formats?
Does it go to the choir members to help cover transportation and per diem costs for while on tour? I would hope the members do get some assistance out of it all.
I think it's wonderful that the Mormon Tabernacle Choir is able to tap into new areas and is enjoying great success. One thing that I have really missed in the last few years though is the sound of the choir accompanied by organ only. Mack Wilberg and Ryan Murphy write beautiful musical arrangements and I do love the orchestra. But I really miss hearing the combination of choir and organ.
My2cents,
Members of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir are called as missionaries to serve in the choir. They do not get paid "per diem" costs for going on tour.
I am not sure about the payment of lodging and transportation costs directly connected with the choir going to a certain area. However, the money does not in any direct sense go to the choir members.
EricC,
I am not sure the tabernacle choir has ever been accompanied by something other than organ for general conference. There are definantly multiple organ-only accompaniements there. So if you have gone a few years without hearing any Mormon Tabernacle Choir accompanied only by organ broadcasts, you can not bame it on the choir.
