Good for CBS and even BETTER for Mr. Tebow and his mother!!!!!!!
We need men and women with courage like never before!
...the NOW organization is saying the ad is not respectful of other peoples lives? By chance, would that apply to the lives of the unborn?? Where is the respect for those poor souls who cannot even speak for themselves yet? Way to go Tim Tebow! We need more voices like yours!
"They want free speech to go in only one direction."
Asking a private company to show common decency and respect for people has nothing to do with freedom of speech but I guess that left-leaning groups who are speaking out against this ad don't have the right to and you want free speech to go in only one direction.
"This is not really a free-speech issue."
Really? Then why did you say that it was a matter of "left-leaning" groups wanting "free speech to go in only one direction?" You can't have it both ways. It can't be both a free speech issue while at the same time not being a free speech issue.
Freedom of speech also gives those that believe in respect the right to protest these ads. To suggest that a mother whose life is in danger should ignore doctor's advice and rely on their faith to get them through it is not only foolish but it is evil and morally repugnant sincew Tebow and his mommy don'tt know their situation and their ads can kill a mother of 5 and leave her children orphans.
Consistency?
I doubt that free speech would have been hailed in 2004 when CBS declined to air an ad.
That ad by the United Church of Christ depicted acceptance of Gays into their Church.
It that courage?
If NOW is "pro-choice", why don't they respect the choice made by Tebow's mother?
Five years ago the United Church of Christ (UCC) wanted to run an ad on CBS promoting the idea that Jesus was inclusive and churches should be also - that all, including the old, the disabled, and gays - should be welcome at church.
CBS refused to run it because it was a "advocacy ad" and it is (was) against their policy to run such ads.
This is where the controversy over the Focus on the Family ad comes from. Why is this advocacy ad okay when that one wasn't? If UCC was to come up with the money for the spot, would CBS run their commercial now?
CBS has recently issued a news release saying they have made some changes and their policy is now all about the money - if you can pay for the spot they will run your ad (as long as it is "tasteful").
This has nothing to do with making the "right" choice - it does have to do with free speech and CBS offering equal speech opportunities for all.
It doesn't speak well of America, that an ad where a mother loved her kid enough not to abort him, could be controversal.
There are too many heartless people in America.
I am getting so tired of people claiming free speech rights to the oppression of others free speech. WAY TO GO CBS, and all those others who believe that free speech is for everyone.
I have personally, in professional and academic settings, been roundly criticized by liberal critics for whom "free speech" means THEIR free speech, and not mine. They are hypocrites!
Free Speech is a right! Congratulations CBS and kudos the the Tebow family. As a mother, who also carried a problem pregnancy to term against medical advice I applaud this ad. My son is now 25 and just graduated with a Masters and is headed to law school.
You would think the abortion rights advocates would support Mrs. Tebow in her choice to continue the pregnancy or is it really not about a woman's right to choose unless she is choosing to abort? Is the only "right" to choose abortion.
The abortion rights groups now have every right to go ahead and air an ad which shows a woman who chose abortion and is thrilled with the decision and we'll all have the opportunity to watch that as well.
Oh the humanity! How can somebody even think that saving an unborn or partially born human being is a good and righteous thing? What is the world comming to?
Being religious and pious is admirable. However, flaunting it with messages on your eye-black patches, and exhorting your beliefs from a stump and on TV takes you from being a man of God, to being "God boy".
Please...worship as you wish and believe anything that gives you spiritual comfort.
But we are all adults here, and don't need your garish messages to make our own decisions.

the game's on Sunday so a little preaching probably won't hurt.
One does not need to be "religious and pious" to value the life of the unborn. Life an be valued by aethists and non-Christian religions. Tebow's mother made her choice as was her right as an adult. Last time I looked free speech was a right and she is also exercising her freedom of choice and her right to speak out. You don't have to watch, listen or like it. Those with the opposing viewpoint are welcome to produce and pay for an ad if they so desire.
We seem to forget that the Bill of Rights guarantees the freedom of speech, not freedom from offense. We have the opportunity and the right to speak any position we choose. We also have the ability to choose to be offended. No one should ever try to restrain the position of another simply because it might be offensive to their position. This is censorship. I may not agree with what you say, but I will die defending your freedom to say it.
I do not beleive that we as a nation have sunk so low as to object to an ad which promotes life and affirms the right of mother to choose to carry her child to term. That was her pro-choice stance! There are those rallying in the media for the right to kill our unborn children. When you consider this, it is mind-boggling that there are any women who would support such actions.
I was unaware that the right of free speech was only reserved for the liberal left and their views. Tough, free speech is the right of all Americans and this American applauds CBS and the Tebows for their choice.
I do not beleive the sky will fall if a 30 second ad affirming the right of a woman to choose NOT to abort and to affirm life is aired.
I think people should realize that the abortion issue is dead (we had a Republican mandate for eight years and nothing was even tried). This ad is the appropriate course to take for people who oppose abortion, and pro-choice supporters should welcome it as an alternative to slaying doctors.
Also, there can be "religious and pious" people who recognize that abortion is sometimes necessary.
Do you realize how pious your comment came across?
NOW is the same organization that pushed to remove Bob Packwood from office - then looked the other way when Bill Clinton was accused of molesting Juanita Broderick (amongst numerous others)
They claim to support working women - but told Sarah Palin to stay home
Now they are offended by someone choosing to keep their child - but apparently not the "Swedish Bikini Team"
I cannot think of any organization (or ideology)that is any more hypocritical and hate based than NOW and modern feminism
