Dave and Cheryl, thank you for allowing all of us into your life. Your frankness will help many more people than you will ever imagine. Your U turn in your lifes habits should give all of us pause to reflect upon our own lives. Best wishes in your life and also with the team.
This is a great story and more people should read it. The article itself is well-written, but the subject matter is a personal experience that affects so many. Survival isn't just about continuing to live, but in living thankfully and totally. There are important things in life, but like Elder Oaks taught in a Conference talk called "Good, Better, Best" there are things in life that we should give more attention to. I hope Dave Rose has a long, happy, healthy life and that he loves every second of it.
Thanks for putting life into perspective Coach Rose. Please savor your time with your wife and children. This story about you made me that much more grateful for everything I have. All the best to you and your family.
Thanks for everything you are doing for BYU. We as students love you and pray for you! Well at least I do. Keep it up and go COUGARS!!
To the classy Ute fan who said he isn't a good coach just look at the record and see who most people think should be the national coach of the year.
Wonderful, inspirational story. Thanks to the Rose's for sharing the story and thanks to the Deseret News for reporting it so well.
As a huge Aggie fan I can say I HATE ybu, but I also hope that Coach Rose continues having good health and can beat this. I lost my Mother to cancer and wouldn't not wish that on anyone. It is awesome to see how much better he is doing. Good luck with your battle, but if you lose every game that is fine too! : )
Thank you, Coach Rose, for giving us a chance to see into your life and how it has changed. All the best!
I agree with "Aggie", I dislike BYU very much but this story is very inspirational. This has to be one of the most inspirational stories in NCAA. Best wishes to the Rose family.
Putting schools and rivalries aside, you are an inspiration to us all Rose family. Cancer is horrible and my heart goes out to them. Here's to wishing the best for them. I know he could probably care less about how well the basketball team does, he is probably doing it more to keep his mind off dwelling about what could have been, but here's to hoping BYU has a very successful season and postseason.
You can say that - you're team is the only one to beat BYU. But, it doesn't appear that losing every game to your satisfaction, is going to be in the cards.
What an example of how to handle adversity. Sure, he's one of the lucky ones who survived. That makes it seems somewhat easier to handle but as one who has gone through an 18 month deployment overseas in a combat zone while my family struggled with keeping it together back home, I have an idea, somewhat lesser scale than the Rose's, but an idea nonetheless, what family adversity is and how fortunate we are when we're able to come out of it stronger. So many families aren't so fortunate.
Good story Mr. Robinson, and I typically don't care for your writing. This one got my attention though.
Keep it up Rose family! Your experience is inspiring.
I used to DISLIKE BYU, but after reading this story about the courageous cancer fight Coach Rose has had to battle this past year........I've decided to start cheering for BYU....even when they play the U of U!
Here's hoping the Cougars have a very successful season and postseason outcome.
GO! FIGHT! WIN!!! COUGARS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great story about a great family at a great school. It's unfortunate when others make negative remarks. You have risen above petty rivalry. You are an inspiration to us all.
Thanks Coach and Cheryl. You made a HUGE positive impact on me and my family. Thanks for the Great Example. I wish everyone had the chance to play for Coach Rose. He truely inspires you to be better at everything.
As a former Cougar basketball player(91-94), I attended practice last week in the Marriott Center. My 10 year-old boy was invited to shoot with the players after practice and they couldn't have been nicer to my kid. Coach Rose took time to say hello and talk to my 10 year-old. I left feeling a great sense of attachment to this team because of the people involved rather than the 20 wins. My best to Coach Rose for a permanent recovery and to the players who I hope erase my team as being the last to win a NCAA tournament game. And even if they don't, I couldn't be a bigger fan of what is going on right now in Provo.
Cancer is the black plague of modern times. Hopefully this thing will be behind us one day. Hope the best for the Rose family .
As a Ute fan I too just cannot bring myself to cheer for the Cougars but Coach Rose has my full support and prayers in his battle with cancer. Coach Rose I'm pulling for you!
That was a great article. Thanks to the Rose family, you are truly an inspiration. Its hard not to give all the credit to God after reading something like that.
As a huge Ute fan I say congratulations and thank you to coach Rose for his accomplishments and example on and off the court. Best to him and his family
Thanks DR for the inspiring well written story. We are all very fortunate that Coach Rose's cancer was not the more serious variety. Here's to hoping it doesn't come back. Best wishes to Coach and his family.
GO COUGARS!!!!!!!!
What a great article. This is a wonderful story that needs to be told. Thank you doug for the nicely written piece. As a huge cougar fan for life I couldn't be happier than to have a great person and coach like rose leading the squad. Having coaches of his caliber as well as bronco make me love byu more than ever.
Go cougars!!
Hopefully that's what this basketball year is for the Cougars. This story needs as much national publicity as possible. It will be told many times if the Cougs do anything in the NCAA's. Bottom line though, Rose is a good man and BYU is fortunate to have him.
