Let's see more info about...

his energy initiatives and the jobs they will create.

Terry Marasco

Maybe i missed it but I did not hear metioned: the greatest policy decision the Gov is about to make gives away State Soverignty and rural economies and lifestyles by signing the NV/UT Water agreement. He is caving to Harry Reid and Pat Mulroy(Southern Nevada Water Authority)out of fear of losing the Lake Powell Pipeline Project. A rns me.Gonernor who administers out of fear conce

Good speech. I felt better hearing that he was against the importation of nuclear waste. He said "let me be clear" which showed me he is quite serious in not letting Energy Solutions turn the state into a nuke dump. This is a difficult economy and it will be no easy task doing this years budget.

Why not allow five acres ...

of private property to help out Italy and help balance the state budget and spur our economy? Herbert should read and then think about his own speech.

He said, 'Simply put, few other states have the energy resources with which we, in Utah, have been blessed...We must also engage Utah's rural areas in this effort, as there is no one who has more know-how, or more at stake, than those communities in Utah whose lifeblood is - and has historically been - the energy industry.'

I think he'll figure it out after he is elected for real and gets out of 'campaigning mode'

State-based coercion for sale

Political favors sold to the highest bidder.

As Gary Herbert said: "If Utah were a stock and I were your stockbroker, I'd say buy!"

Dissapointed.

At this point I would love to vote for a primary challenger to Herbert. He is starting to slide from being a conservative to a liberal, just like his predecessor. We need a real conservative before we end up like CA.

Allow ES to do their business.
Get out of any Climate Change nonsense agreements.
Prosecute eco terrorists.
Enable real school vouchers.
Cut taxes more and reduce Goverment's wasteful services.

All in favor say Aye. AYE! AYE! AYE!

Herbert's message was spot on. This guy is the real deal. It's refreshing to see a real person with principles, rather than a slick politician, running the state. I'd call Herbert a "conservative with common sense."

WHERE

Where is the rebuttal from the State's Minority Party?

(Do we have a Minority Party)

"we will need

to find other revenue sources" translated means we will need to take more money from the people.

As for Herbert's energy initiative, how about we let the market decide. Ivory tower folks who are not spending their own money are not where energy solutions are going to come from.

Save Money

If they really are serious about saving money the Legislature needs to join in with the rest of the State. Cut the Legistures Health Plan. Why does a part time Legislature get a full health plan?

If Obama says the same

thing Herb said last night today then everyone in Utah will boooooooooooooooooo!

Teleprompter

Sure, Gov Herbert's speech was good. But I noticed he was using a teleprompter. He can't speak well without one.

Sincerely,
Those who criticize, for some strange reason, President Obama for using a teleprompter during speeches like every President for many years

Pagan

Herbert's lost my vote.

$700 million dollar shotfall of Utah's state budget.

3,000 tons of radioactive depleted uranium allowed into Utah's soil.

No, I think I'm voting for Corroon.

To Dissapointed

You said:

I disagree with you on ES, vouchers, and cutting taxes.

I would bet that 90% of the state would agree with me on those three things. O.K. maybe only 80% on vouchers but if you think your opinions are in the majority, you are not listening.

Re: To Dissapointed

You have no clue, I agree with all of the list. On company offers to fill 1/6 of the state budget shortfall and you have the gall to call them out. Maybe your company would like to fill the gap, or perhaps we can just tax everyone to death put more people out of there homes and you can sit back in your barka lounger in Park City. If the majority of Utah is really this dumb maybe i do need to move out of the state.

Grandstanding

Herbert learned well from Huntsman: Say what the public wants to hear and then allow the ultra-conservatives to do whatever they want. Herbert is looking great to the average person in Utah (not the freaks like "Disappointed") and yet when the republican led legislature does not follow anything he outlined he will not veto a single one of their laws.
This way he looks great to the public and yet he allows the real powers that be to be placated and get their way. This way the average Utahan suffers.
Stop the political posturing and hold the legislature accountable for what they end up doing: which will only be to help themselves and big businesses.

We are in really difficult times here in the state of Utah and across the country. A lot of people came to Utah because of our better economy, but now they are finding that it is catching up with everyone.

JJ

"The most sustained applause for Herbert came when he said what's best for the state's economic recovery is "continued fiscal restraint and to not raise taxes." While he got a standing ovation from Republicans, Democrats stayed seated."

That's because Democrats like big government and high taxes.

@JJ

No,the Dems didn't stand and applaud because they know a hypocrite when they see one. Herbie and pals just handed Goldman Sachs $20 million as a bribe to move to SLC. Is that what you call "fiscal restraint"?

Other Sources

Problem: "We will need to find other revenue sources"

Solution:
Energy Solutions

Easy, and everyone is happy.
