Enter name After the birth of my grandchild my daughter saw not able to regain her weight she had always been a bit over weight to begin with. Her sugar level went up during and after pregnancy, she is also a mentally challenged person and it was very hard on her to understand that she was on a boarder level of Diabetes there for she became a Diabetic, because she did not feel sick it was very hard to help her control her sugar levels.
Doctor could not help because there are no General Practitioner do not had the tool other then sending her to a Diabetic health center. To make a long story short, I looked for alternative methods. many long and shorts though SCIOE therapy and muscle testing we found that she was suffering a long term thyroid problems that can not be detected though blood tests alone. With my experience in this, it's nice to know there are Doctors Working in this area, but not enough to combat the existing problems in Obesity because in most cases it can not be diagnost efficiently.
I suffer from hypothyroidism. I sent undiagnosed and untreated for at least 5 years, probably more. Once I learned about the condition I was very angry to find out that a simple $35 test could have identified the problem before it caused me to gain 50 lbs. and affected my job, marriage and family. In my case it is an autoimmune disorder. While there are more women that are diagnosed, it does affect men too. This is a test that should be as routine as that for cholesterol. While taking thyroid hormones checks the worst effects of the condition, the loss of my bodies ability to adjust my hormone levels to the ever changing demands of life continues to impact my life.
I was diagnosed with hypo thyroidism when I was in my mid 20's. I was on medicine and then they retested me and told me that my tyroid was fine. I have been retested several times sense and they tell me that my thyroid is fine but the doctor who diagnosed me with it said that the thyroid on my right side was dead for all intense and purpose and that I would be on medication all my life. I am overweight and I am not a big eater. I am always cold and my hair though not losing it is becoming thinner, and I am tired a lot and do not sleep well at night. Can a thyroid turn off and on like that? I really don't know at this point what to do?? Any idea from medical personnel? or someone who knows.. thanks
If the doctor tells you your thyroid is in "range" after reviewing blood work, ask for a saliva test. It is more accurate and will show what your thyroid is really doing. I was told year after year nothing was wrong with my thyroid, because the test results were in range. I kept gaining weight. I finally find a doctor who is an expert with hormone issues and he tested my saliva. This test showed I had problems with my thyroid. I'm finally on the right path to getting this issue corrected.
I was diagnosed diabetic 2 1/2 years ago and found a new endocrinologist last year. She did a more thorough exam, and did a TSH as well as thyroid antibody tests. My TSH was 3.97, but the antibody level was 619-giving me the diagnosis of Hashimoto's thyroiditis. I found out that I have probably had this for many years-the reason she did the antibody tests is because physical exam showed a slightly enlarged thyroid gland. However the more I researched this condition, the more I realized that I had many symptoms for years, and I too wish I had been diagnosed earlier. Some of the symptoms I had attributed to getting older. As far as I know I have no family history of thyroid problems.
Fortunately for me, taking Synthroid(brand, not generic) has helped me feel so much better and has brought my TSH down to 2.7 so far.
I was first diagnosed with blood work from my family doctor. They gave me meds, retested and said my thyroid was in range. But I still felt terrible. So I decided to see an endocrinologist (deals specifically with thyroids etc) Anyways, she re tested, gave me the right dosage. I feel a ton better. I now regularly see Dr. Maturlo at the Central Utah Clinic in Provo. 801-429-8095
I have been diagnosed with Hypothyroidism, but i am in need of a good endocrinologist who is willing to do some of these tests. I am not happy at all with mine, he continues to tell me to exercise and the weight will come off. I am not a big eater and would just like a good doctor who will listen to me. Does anybody out there have a good one.
thanks
I too am in need of a good endocrinologist in the Salt Lake area. I would specifically like one that is a good listener and willing to try natural thyroid. I would like someone that doesn't look down on me when I want to try more holistic approaches as well as medical.
Could plastic dental fillings cause this? Somebody just asked if this is used in Dentistry (Bisphenol A (BPA) which is used in plastics and causes thyroid problems as this article mentioned).
The answer is yes so keep track of what is in your dental materials and when they were placed to see if there is a match. Dental Sealants and Liners and Dental Cements too.
These comments only confirm there is a very big problem in the diagnosis of Thyroid problems. my only answer to those out there is alternative investigations, most people today have lost faith in western medicine and are looking at alternatives, maybe just maybe Doctors will stand up and take note. I know of many doctors that are looking at alternative medicine but they are few and fare between compared to the the vast population of MD'S. My world has been around Medicain all my life because my brother is a Aquapuntures, works in eyeolagy, you name it he does it. He has beeen able to help people that Doctors have sent home because they can't help them or people that have suffered many many years and western medicine didn't help them. This probaly wouldn't even get posted but I can try.
I love my endocrinologist at the Salt Lake Clinic. Her name is Dr. Swenson. She is very thorough and is willing to sit and talk to you about all your symptoms and what may be causing them. I was the opposite of hypo,(I have Graves disease which is hyper-thyroid) but the treatment is to actually make me hypo and take a replacement thyroid. She does a great job at keeping my replacement hormone where it belongs, she leaves standing orders at the clinic that I can go and be tested any time I need, she keeps and eye out for other auto-immune diseases that I am prone to, and helps me be empowered to take charge of my health.
I have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and the Dr has put me on levothrozine, started at 50 mcf, now at 75 mncg, will be tested again in March 2010. I am still not feeling better. I am tired a lot, muscle weakness, cold, lethargic, sensitive to heat and cold, hair is falling out, getting thinner, brain fog, depressed sometimes, forgetful, high bp when I go anywhere, over emotional at times, feeling of loss. I know this is temporary but how long does it take to get your medicine right. I hear they have to do it a little at a time. I hope they figur it outsoon. I am seeing a regular MD at the time, not a specialist. Should I? I feel like I am actually physically going downhill. Thanks.
hi Connie sorry your feeling so lousy, but its to be expected, as I hear it you are not getting the you are needing. Have a look at EFT Emotional Freedom Technic. Levothyroxine is another way of saying Iodine, which you can get at any heath food store. Don't get me wrong this is the right treatment for thyroid. but it sounds like you need a little helph in the area of stress.Check out your health food store we all can do with a little more help then just your MD. Re: Dr. Kent Holtorf
He is not a board certified endocrinologist. He also poses as an infectious disease specialist (Fox News). He is not board certified in internal medicine, endocrinology or infectious diseases.
It is not possible to verify if he is certified in family practice.
This article contains inaccurate and very misleading information.
Does anybody know what 3.97 in 'the thyroid range', actually means? This was the result of my blood test, but getting a doctor or nurse to explain the figures and meaning is proving difficult.
My symptoms are weight gain and tiredness, despite healthy diet and exercise.
