These doctors, support staff with them, and those supporting their efforts at home to make this possible should all be given the highest praise for their efforts. What an amazing group of people!
Mormons must be Christians! They are acting like Jesus would have!
WOW! Thank you for this article. It is so good to know that there are people like this in our world. It gives us all hope to see humanitarial aid---with now monatary reward. Good job Docors
May God bless the Haitian people & minimize their suffering!
I looked up registered and recommended charities and LDS Philanthropies and LDS Humanitarian Services were not on the list. Numerous charities were graded on the effectivness of distributing their funds. Why is our charity not listed.
Great work being done under deplorable conditions by good selfless people who have gathered from all over the world to help and share their talents, in this instance their medical knowledge. Doctors and nurses from many different areas working side by side with one common purpose, to help as much as they can.
Our Church is not listed because we aren't funded by outside donations. Our Fast tithing and generous donations made by our ladies in Relief Society and other members of the church is what allows us to do so much service in these conditions. Helping Hand programs with each ward, putting together hygiene kits, first aid kits and supplies needed by new mothers, it all comes from within.
I LOVE YOU DAD! I miss you, but i know you are doing something important and saving lives! you are truly a hero!
Yes, Mormons are definitely Christians. The correct name of our church is "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints". Many years ago people not of our faith called us Mormons, after the Book of Mormon, which is a book of scripture covering approximately a 1,000 year span from 600BC to about 420AD, and recounts the history of people who came from the Old World in 600BC (and one group even before that) to an area in the Central America region. It includes an account of Christ's visit to his "other sheep" who were on this continent, after His resurrection. (see John 10:16) It is also known to us as a Second Witness of Jesus Christ, and testifies of Him on nearly every page.
The Church Humanitarian organization is amazing! There are emergency supplies and people ready on a moment's notice when disaster strikes. We consider everyone to be our brother or sister, and want to help in any way we can. I feel so bad for the people of Haiti, and although I can't go there personally, I can help through contributing time to make survival kits, and donating money.
You also may want to know that the LDS Church partnered with Islamic Relief USA so you might see that charity listed rather than LDS Philanthropies.
Re: "Anonymous" on why the church is not listed on the "recommended charities" list. Who cares? It doesn't matter. What matters is the selfless, charitable manner in which these volunteer medical professionals provided much needed relief and assistance to these Haitians who have suffered a tragidy of biblical proportions. I think the church is perfectly fine not being included on "lists." Its goes about providing aid in a truly Christ-like manner. God bless these volunteers, and the families they've left behind. May then be kept safe and out of harms way.
These lists are compiled to help people know what organizations to donate through. Some charities only use a small portion of the money contributed for the specific purpose they are collecting for. Other charities use 100% for the designated purpose. People are instructed to check out charities to find out their track record. It would be helpful even for members to know if all the money they contribute to Haiti will actually go there.
That's the beauty of the Welfare Program which is sustained by the contributions of members all around the world. It's so nice to know that your $100 donation in tithing helps as much as the $1 donation of some member in Africa. All are done with faith and hope. I am grateful the church takes care of those donations very carefully. Everytime I sign a donation check, I know that money is very well used.
One reason LDS charties aren't on the list is because they don't open their books like other organizations. But you don't have look far to see that they do a good job disbursing the funds.
I appreciate everyone who pitches in to help these people. It could happen to any of us.
But those who donate anonymously are the true HEROES!
Amazing people doing amazing work. Thank you for this well-written article. It gives us a glimpse as to what these volunteers experiencing.
Bless all the care givers of Haiti. Our Church does not get the listings of being charitable...BUT ...Our Heavenly Father knows that we are indeed there to aid the people of Haiti and that is the most important Blessing we can recieve. All our monies come from within our members and tithings. That is probably the reason we are not recognized...
Mormon Pride. It is little wonder why the church is despised----the arrogant people.
It is sad that the only way I can help is a financial donation...I wish I could be there on the front lines...cudos to those that are...it will be an unforgetable contribution for all.
