Unemployment Rate

Wonder what the unemployment rate is in our "undocumented immigrant" community?

Earl

Many of those who first lost their jobs were illegals. This jobless rate can't be blamed on them. You're blaming a strawman.

Illegals

If they were all illegals, wouldnt it be hard to know if they were jobless since they want to stay out of the governments sight or they'll be deported? Just food for thought.

remmons

It sounds like that the Christmas seasonal employees as well as the contractors took more hits this go round.

what?

First ones where the illegals? Go to any large construction company's site, like the new fast food restaurant in Saratoga, and see who's working. Or how about all those Salisbury Homes in Spanish Fork. More Illegals have jobs than legals in the construction field. How can someone bid against someone who uses illegals, they can't. They have a 20 to 30% advantage due to no taxes.

It's Obama's fault

Even though he wasn't in office when the crisis started, he is now the one in charge and therefore he has to be held accoutnable.

Dig Baby Dig

Cut Taxes and Government Spending.

Obama to the rescue!!!

No fear, Obama is coming to the rescue!!!

Earl

My point was that many of the businesses that disappeared were the ones created by the building industry. There are significantly fewer illegals here than before. But to put it in perspective, illegals aren't the real reason for high unemployment. The blame should be aimed at the banking system. If you want to grab your pitchforks and storm the bad guys, march on the banksters who created the false economy that attracted the illegals in the first place.

re: what?

Are you immigration officer? did you check any so named by you illegals- documents? If you are not caucasian ya illegal. right?

@Dig baby dig: How many jobs will that create, and who are we selling it to?

HYPOCRITES!!!!

I hope none of the newly unemployed are anti-Socialist conservatives.

If so, they should fore-go taking any un-employment benefits now shouldn't they?!

.....

From Hippo to Strawmen..

These Comments are so Kool

Sarcasm

Ya, don't FORCE me to pay taxes to help them.

They need to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps.

Next, the need to rely on their own families for help.

Then the church.

You should NEVER be part of the Socialist Government nanny state.

[hypocrites]

================

In reality...

In today's ecnonmy, I feel blessed to even have a job.
I gladly pay my taxes to help those in need,
I don't expect the needy to repay me,
because there might be an unfortunate crisis in my life one day when I might need to be the recepiant.

I would never want to be a hypocrite.

That's why I'm liberal.

Construction Jobs Reality

Loss of construction jobs can mainly be attributed the lack of new home starts throughout the state. The general a) inability to qualify for a mortgage, b) high inventory/low qualified buyer ratio, c) fear about the future, d) unemployment and underdeployment ALL contribute to the problem.

Blaming government officials, illegal immigrants, the nanny state, etc. are oversimplifications at best and flat out wrong at worst.

Once the construction market has corrected itself, all the above problems will slowly be resolved.
