That is so wonderful what they are doing! I know some of the search and rescue men over there, please send in donations. I know they are using this money to help these people, no red tape, 100% goes straight to helping out the people of Haiti right now. We ask what we can do, well here it is, please help them. These are great men doing all they can to help and it is time for us to help out.
This makes it sound like the kids are camped in the Dominican Replublic. Are they? Or is it just the helicopter group there?
So nice to amoung such good people. Please turn up the giving of donations to keep this saving mahine working. Thank you all.
My haitian daughter's 5 year old brother is lives in the orphanage that Mr. Johnson took much needed supplies to. Thank you so much Mr. Johnson. We heard that they were brought food to get them through a little longer. It means so much to us to know that Jean can eat and drink. Such a small world. We are praying that Jean will be among the children brought to america on humanitarian parole. We still haven't been able to contact his birth family.
If they want to build immediate housing "on-the-cheap" they need to take all the steel shipping containers coming in with supplies and make them into housing. This type of construction can be made very livable and would be safe in storms and earthquakes. Previously organizations have made schools and other building out of these containers. Given a stucco finish and some paint they even look good. I would not be surprized to learn that this has already been done in limited numbers in Haiti, even before the earthquake.
Eventually, once the port is fixed these containers will be coming in in large numbers. Might as well put them to use instead of sending them back. US port cities actually have a surplus of these containers that could be shipped over...hopefully filled with supplies.
I have even considered doing the same to build a barn and a workshop here in Utah.
If you were to take America out of the global charity picture, what would you have left except for a few benevolent small countries with the desire, but not the wherewithal to deliver the massive amount of aid that is required in catastrophic world events?. It seems that America is one of the most despised countries in the world. We're accused of nation building, military aggression, and forcing our decadent Western lifestyle on an innocent and unsuspecting world. That is until there is a major disaster in the world, and then everybody expects America to do ten times more than all the nations who accuse us of being an uncaring monolithic empire. And we always do. We always do more than any other nation on Earth, no matter what the disaster, or where it occurs, and not just the government, but the people of America. We are always ready to open our hearts and our pocketbooks to help out with whatever needs doing. Unfortunately, many of the dollars we send will end up in the pockets of the inept crooks that run Haiti. Utahns try alternative relief methods?. What?, sell them your home in Utah perhaps?.
The other children headed to the embassy were turned away and told to go back yesterday. They are back at the orphanage but have been provided with security and supplies. The team is working very hard today to get their approval to get out today.
i am so proud of my dad. he is doing such amazing things over there. and all of his team. he is one in a million. all of those men are, doing everything they can to help, its just amazing.
Thank you for all updates on Haiti with regard to the relief efforts from the Church, members and friends everywhere. It helps and means a lot, to give us here in England a clearer picture beyond the reports of the national media and to be kept informed of the needs for all involved. As with the First Presidency message yesterday,we continue with Prayer, donations and being prompted to know how to help.
In reply to the person who feels America is despised by the rest of the world. Not true; Americans have been known for their generosity long before this current disaster. Why do you think so many countries like my own support you militarily? Our interests and ideals are similar and we look to you as the leader of the free world. There's "opposition in all things" so grow a tougher hide.
Ortho/emergency/anesthesia team with supplies and anesthetics trying to get in, but no luck so far. I am going to donate today so you can continue your vital work, you are saving more lives than all our good intentions ever can! I forwarded the article to other members of my team. Good luck and thank you for what you are doing for the people of Haiti
