Dead on arrival. Pull your head out, King.

Need more taxes?

Instead of putting all the costs on citizens of Utah, why doesn't the legislators do something about employers and their illegal alien employees committing tax evasion? Tax evasion in Utah is in the billions of dollars and I think a larger tax recovery and auditing division would pay for itself in the first 3 months.

Employers who employ illegal aliens pay no state or federal taxes for them. Being they are illegal a business cannot report any taxes withheld on an individual who does not exist, so they pocket all of these taxes.

The illegals not being traceable or identifiable do not file or pay income taxes or any other taxes to federal government like Medicare, Medicaid, SSA, yet they are being allowed to pilfer government services with a utility bill as identification.

The illegals in Utah and this country is why our government is going broke, none of them are paying any taxes, they are just allowed to loot and pilfer all they want. None of them have any debts and rolls of hundred dollar bills in their pockets, as they sit in the chairs at the welfare office.

About time

The rich find loop holes in tax laws to avoid paying their fair share. At least with this increase they will be paying almost as much as the rest of us. It is about time the rich pay their share. It is time to end welfare for the wealthy.

lost in DC

about time 6:40, since they are able to find those loop holes, don't you think they will also find ways out of this one?

I'm not rich, but I have a better idea, why don't you instead of forcing the rich to do what you want them to, just go and ask them for the money. Let them donate it willingly. Isn't that why we love freedom? Because then we're free. You Liberals including King like to steal other peoples money. I would rather just get rid of the education system rather than use government force to steal from them!

Bad idea!

Why not just attach the money to each student? Let folks shop around? Or better still - repeal the taxes, close down public ed, and let parents be responsible for their own children's education! Wow... there's a thought!

Why not make the UEA take some of the burden? They've got enough money earmarked for lobbying for these things, they can afford it.

No more Democrat tax hikes! We pay too much for so little as it is!

Personal Injury Attorney

This is a terrible idea. It will substantially hurt small business growth in Utah.

To Ananymous

No more "Utah" Republican tax hikes! We pay too much for so little as it is!

UEA Babblings

Get rid of the UEA and their incessant babblings and whinings for more tax dollars. They revealed their true colors over the voucher battle and school choice for parents. It's outrageous, they take our tax money, and limit our freedom to choose what's best for our own children with it. It's like a forced servitude. So many well-meaning teachers are duped into thinking that the UEA actually brings some "value added" to the educatioanl process. In reality, it's a self-interested organization which survives on perpetuating crises or perception of crises...in order to scare good teachers into donating part of their salary to keeping the 'beast alive." Or for the Insurance. most Teachers would be better off canning the uber-liberal UEA (an affiliate of the NEA and AFL-CIO) and just getting an umbrella liability policy with their homeowners insurance. Would be better coverage and cheaper too. Without all of the liberal non-sensical baggage that NEA and AFL-CIO tries to support. (Just look at their websites and policy positions).

Thinkin' Man

This proposal is the definition of the word "unfair." Penalizing small business owners, who make up most of the targeted demographic, would hurt economics and employment in Utah.

Fundamental idea of Marxism is to take from the rich and give to the poor; doesn't work outside of fairy tells

Rich

I suppose my family would be classified as rich because we earn more than $350,000.00 per year. I wasn't born rich, I worked two and three jobs while going to college for 9 years to obtain a professional education. I 10% to my Church and another 15% to Charities. I pay my bills on time, support my family, have never asked for welfare or any other kind of government help even in the days when I could have used it. I have no problem paying my fair share of taxes and beleive me I pay a lot because I don't seek loopholes. Many, many people pay no tax at all. So now you are saying I am some kind of evil, rich parasite and I should have my hard earned money taken from me to subside others. It's enough to make me start to look for every loophole there is. I earned what I have.

Utah Citizen

Raising taxes on the rich is not the way to pay for education or any other program. This is another move towards socialistic thinking. Last night the voters in MA spoke loud and clear. Its time for those in Salt Lake City to stop voting these Democrats into our state legislature.
