"The prospect of a logjam in Washington over health care eased concerns that profits at companies like insurers and drug makers would suffer. Rising health stocks pulled the broader market higher."
Isn't that interesting! Whose money do you think they - insurers and drug companies - are making the profits from?
Would someone please explain to me
how anyone - especially a Christian - would celebrate the news that millions of their neighbors who are struggling in this economy, to put food on their table and pay the mortage are going to have to continue without even basic health care?
Why would these same people cheer on the huge corporate health, insurance and drug industries with their hugemongeous profits and bonuses and off shore bank accounts?
Please . . . I just don't get it!
Deborah: They are cheering because they know that the Federal Government cannot run anything, especially Health Care, resulting in quality in an efficient manner. NOTHING. The free market place has brought health coverage to the majority of Americans over the last 50 years. Charity to mankind should not be mandated by redistribtion of wealth. History of proven this time and time again.
Profits are what drive businesses to provide products and services. If there's no profit, the products and services will not exist. If you like the service you get at the Post Office and the DMV - by all means get your insurance from the government. But you might want to see how long the waiting lists in Canada and the UK for necessary surgery before you make that leap. Also, check into how many doctors are dropping Medicare patients or don't take them in the first place. It's so bad in rural areas that many people simply can't find a doctor anymore - or the one or two doctors left have waits weeks out to get an appointment. And now they are talking about gutting Medicare further to pay for insurance for those of working age. By all means - let's make a bad situation worse! It's quite easy to find stories of doctors who have already left the field because it's less problematic to earn a good living in some other field. Or they can't make a decent living anymore given their malpractice insurance costs. Let's fix that first.
My neighbor's health and well-being are his responsibility. If he is in need, I have the right to choose to help him, which I should do as a Christian, but the minute the government tells me I have to help him or be thrown in jail as a consequence, my rights are being infringed. You can choose to help him too.
