Is it me or is there a facial resemblence to "Otis Cambell" the lovable drunk from the Andy Griffith show?
You have to admire a man like Killpack. He made a grievous error, but was man enough to admit his mistake, and then face the consequences. Plus he didn't blame anyone else, or make any excuses, definitely a class act.
There's no tragedy here, just hypocrisy. The man made his career, in part, on demonizing his fellow citizens about DUI, then he goes out and does it. Cry me a river.
the breathalizer because he was WASTED.If he just had a couple of beers and a low BAC he or anyone would take the test . KSL loves to have the pic of him in his best "Look how LDS I am" conservative blue suit. The pic that shows who is really is would be the booking photo .A "class act" wouldnt be driving about wasted and endangering the lives of everyone who was on the road that night and probably countless other times we dont know about when he was BLITZED and DRIVING
There is always a consequence that follows a choice--whether it be good or not so good. It's too bad he made such a poor choice--not just for drinking and driving, but going against teachings of the Church he is a member, and disappointing family, friends, and those he was elected to serve. I'm sure his poor choice will haunt him for the rest of his life, but he did make a smart choice for resigning and fessing up to his mistake.
Always sorry when you get caught...
You know he was going to continue doing it and has done it in the past, so, Admire??? I just hope he has learned his lesson.
Yup, I see some Otis.
"News conference"? What "news conference"? I though he issued a statement on the Senate's blog site, and gave an interview to a D-News reporter.
I hope as a society, we apply the same standard of disgust to both republican and democratic leaders.
However, I fear we pick a choose when we are disgusted. "Smack of arrogance" offensives should go both ways.
I have nothing against Killpack and I'm not sure he should have resigned, but there is an object lesson for the Davis County electorate who basically offer up a sustaining vote for anything the Republican Party offers, without examining the goods and without considering what a Democrat might have to offer.
Sheldon Killpack is a typical Republican. Enough said.
Hypocrisy never sleeps.
Hypocrites should be whisked out of office post-haste.
Don't put on such Party blinders that you can't see hypocrisy wherever it arises.
Those in high places always have a secret life that goes against what they say they believe. The more self-rightous they are, the greater the secret. And when they are exposed, we wonder why.
Tragic and so common.
This man clearly forgot who he was and what he was supposed to stand for. He now has the time to do some really serious thinking and repenting. I hope he will take that opportunity and work through this with his family and Church leaders. This is a cautionary tale for all of us.

Mr. Killpack is a typical Republican? I am ok with him resigning he has shown some hypocrisy. I am not sure what is meant by "a typical" Republican." We have the best managed state in the Union and lowest unemployment. Let's keep it that way.
Since being busted for drunken driving- indisputably a bad decision- Killpack has done the right thing. He has not sought to justify his actions, or place blame on anybody or anything else, except himself. He refused to take the field-administered breathalyzer test, which is his right, but he didn't pull the old "Don't you know who I am?" with the Highway Patrol officer. While this certainly reveals a flaw, it does not make him a hypocrite. He seems more than willing to stand up for the values he championed and submit to laws he worked to pass. He was also correct to resign so that his legal troubles would not be a distraction at time when the leg. faces huge challenges.
For those of a different political persuasion who rejoice in Killpack’s downfall, let's review: When Bill Clinton was busted did he man up? No! What about Barney Frank and his entourage of male prostitutes? My point is that as a registered Independent with no party axes to grind, there are more than enough scandals on both sides of aisle to engage in finger pointing all the live long day, including Sanford, Vitter, et. al.
Have a hard time reading the article with all the stones flying....
Typical Republican? The only thing "typical" about Mr. Killpack is that when Republicans stumble, they pay the price. Other Republicans do not surround them and insulate them in corruption.
Look at the recent string of corrupt Democrats in D.C., New Jersey, Chicago, etc. Resignations are the exceptions, denial and resistance the rule.
If only Democrats could be more "typical".
