I'd be perfectly happy to see HBO fall into a bottomless pit and take Tom Hanks with them.

@Digbads

Apparently you did not see "Band of Brothers." If you had, you'd reverse that comment. It was fabulous and "Pacific" looks to be just as great.

Big Love

I lost a lot of respect for Tom Hanks after Big Love and the Prop 8 stuff. A little "true colors" has been shown on his side. He has done some great things, but he's also done some things better left undone. In a world were you can't and shouldn't be racist (a big and great step), it would be nice if the same applied to religious beliefs.

I agree with "big love" I was a huge Tom Hanks fan, until I learned about his hatred of Mormons.

John C.

I don’t know if you could say he hates us Mormons. I agley remember his comments after Prop 8, and they where those of someone who made a judgment without the facts like so many do. I have enjoyed most of his movies but I lost respect for him after making such comments about the Church.

Digbads

I saw much of several episodes of "Band of Brothers."

I am a great student of history, including WWII.

I stand by my comments.

I hope all you "victims" are just as angry about Hanks' involvement with the Dan Brown movies. Those books and movies are far more offensive to the Catholic Church than "Big Love" is to the Mormon Church. Of course none of you would know that since you've never actually watched the show. It's actually one of the most sympathetic portrayals of the Mormon Church (and indeed religion in general) in all media. Watch "Big Love" and then the "South Park" episode "All About the Mormons?" then tell me which one has you more upset.

Brian

I don't agree with any move that tears any religion down. I don't care which church, just leave religion out of the movies...or better yet...don't support them by watching them.

Just remember

I am a fan of Band of Brothers. Hope to see the Pacific...
BUT
Once a minister of another misunderstood church answered to one of his students when she asked him a question about an article in the media about Mormons - and if it was true? The wise priest answered: "Always first remember what they (media) say about us."

Whenever Tom Hanks produces something I will always remember what he does with Big Love and his statements on Prop8 and the church - and I wonder if this isn't true/actual either.

I lost a lot of respect for Tom Hanks with the show Big Love and his comments over prop 8/

Now whenever I hear something about him or his wife, I find myself turning the channel/ So sad because I really liked him before.

Funny the comment about "In a world were you can't and shouldn't be racist (a big and great step), it would be nice if the same applied to religious beliefs." I bet there are alot of people that would say the same thing about sexual preferace... It is exactlly that attitude that makes people take exception to mormons.. No matter what you beleive open up you mind and look at yourself as others see you...We had no business taking a politcal stand against gays, and believe me I am not gay but I am tolerant.

New Tom Hanks Fan

I never really liked Tom Hanks UNTIL he made his comments about Mormons, and did the Big Love thing! What a well-written, well-done show! Now I have a great deal of respect for Tom Hanks!

Go Tom! You Rock!

I loved Band of Brothers and look forward to the Pacific series. All WWII stuff is interesting to me. While I was not happy about Hanks remarks about the LDS church over Proposition 8 I still admire his work as an actor and producer. (Apollo 13 is my favorite movie.) Just look at it this way. He's not a genius and he pretends for a living. How upset should you be over what people who are uninformed say?

LA_Utahn

Tom Hanks apologized for what he said in reference to mormons. In doing that he did more than a lot of people on both sides of the issue have done. I don't agree with everything he says or does, but have enjoyed a lot of his work and look forward to seeing some of the good things he'll do in the future.

I like TomHanks,as an actor!

I heart Tommy`

I like Hanks

I am LDS and active. I love almost all of Hanks work. I've watched a bit of "Big Love" and to tell you the truth, it seems pretty fair and thoughtful. It really doesn't seem dishonest, even if not too complimentary of the Church.

Also, Hanks remarks about the Church and Prop 8 were his opinion, and weren't mean or over-the-top. They, again, seemed thoughtful. It is well known that many Americans opinions are divided over Prop. 8. And I don't dislike people just because they don't agree with me.

Religion is fair game in the media. It doesn't tip my faith when people voice thier disagreement. Especially when they do so respectfully. Hanks appears to be a respectful critic. I appreciate him for that.

Justin

Tom Hanks said some hurtful things about my church and I didn't like it. Then he apologized. He holds some opinions that I disagree with but I appreciate his willingness to apologize. I hold no grudge and respect him as a person and as an actor.

I certainly disapproved of Hanks comments on Mormons and prop 8, but if we stop watching movies or listening to music from Hollywood liberals we will not have much to choose from. Band of Brothers was excellent and I expect the same from the Pacific.

can't see the forest OR trees

Everybody has a blindspot.

And supporting gay marriage, prop8, and knowing absolutely nothing about Mormons--but not letting that stop him from acting like a holier-than-thou expert on Mormons--just happens to be Tom's.
