God speed and God bless as they embark to help those ravaged by this disaster.
Thank you for the incredible act of love and service you are showing and representing to those who need you the most right now. Heaven bless each of you and your families while you are saving lives in Haiti. I find it amazing that the church in Port Au Prince is a place of refuge to help. A blessing?
Preparing and heading out on a Sunday reminded me of the men Brigham Young similarly called to go on a Sunday to rescue those trapped in the snow from the Willie and Martin companies.
Echoing wow 11:49 God speed and God bless.
You and your family are in our prayers, along with the people of Haiti.
Greater Love hath no man......
Your service to these deserving people is greatly appreciated. May God bless you and your families as you bless the lives of the people in Haiti.
What a marvelous group of people. God bless them and their families as they serve so unselfishly.
Go help our hurting brothers and sisters. My prayers will be with you.
Thank you for your willingness to use your skills to assist the people of Haiti. Thank you LDS Church for gathering and supporting this group. To ecaho other, God Speed.
The LDS missionary program where so many of our young men and women have mastered foreign languages is a boon. My own sons speak, French, Spanish, German and Russian and have helped with refugees.
Bless all those from the many different Churches and aid groups who are converging on Haiti.
These wonderful doctors and nurses and others are on god's mission, and I whish I had the skills to do the same.
I note however that the LDS Chappels have stood the test of the earthquake. LDS Chappels are built to the exacting standards of the Lord, and have stood the test. We need to help the people of Haiti build to the same standards.
God Bless.
Bonne chance et bon voyage mes amis! Que Dieu vous benisse tous pour tout ce que vous ferez l-bas!
Some of us want to help but have not health do so.While we pray let us at least ask ourselves,if a disaster was to hit my town would I be ready? Is my 72 hr. emergency kit ready? For each family member? How about year's supply?Am I taking basic 1st aide classes?Even if I were to die I would like to know that these things could help someone who lived.Am I teaching my family how to be one of the helpers in a situation like this or have them feel they must resort to the lawless animals that we hear about.Could schools and offices drill so a few more might be saved. Are vital documents and insurance papers copied and mailed to a relative or bank in a different part of the country? As we reach out to help Haiti let us learn how to be prepared.God Bless.
Please do what you can to keep us updated about this mission. My good friend Dr. Jeff Randle is on the team. He served his LDS Mission in Haiti. I hate to nit-pick, but his organization, based in Port au Prince, is HEALING (not Helping) Hands for Haiti.
and one I have been waiting for! The LDS church normally sends supplies, and rebuilding help later but doesn't normally send emergency-type teams. I hope it is a sign of things to come.
Having responded to other disasters personally myself, even amid the commonly believed "advice" that it isn't helpful for people to just go and help (often it is said you just add to the problem, which I did not find to be true), I really wanted the LDS church organization to be present in these disaster settings.
The LDS church is incredibly organized, the people have been trained to be effective leaders and maybe more importantly, great followers who can put their hand to big problems and work cooperatively and for long hours. This is just what is needed in disaster situations.
I hope the church will put together these response teams more and more in the future and not hesitate to go in and help immediately.
Can you imagine how many rubble movers they could have mobilized in about 2 hours after this earthquake? That is what was needed to save lives in this very sad disaster.
there are two groups of people who are always there to help when disaster strikes...
...the LDS church and the Mormons!
Thanks to all who help.
Yup--heard it myself after the huge Oklahoma City tornado in '99.
Blessings on this group leaving for Haiti--you can't believe how many of us are rooting you on and wishing you all the energy and resources you will need.
While I too am glad that the LDS church is sending a specialized response team, the LDS church is not a recognized disaster relief entity, i.e., the Red Cross, et. al. I can't imagine the red tape that's been uncharacteristically cleared so that this group is allowed to go to Haiti. Please don't praise them for going, but for not being one of the first on site.
God bless all the people of Haiti, & those who will offer assistance & relief. They will experience horrors that will remain with them for a lifetime.
To the 1:36 commentor,
Why should we not praise people for going? While you may have no obligations, no family or anything like that, most people do, and they can not just up and leave and go hundreds of miles without giving notice.
I am impressed. These volunteers are a great example to all of us.
The differences we have as individual countries are wiped away as we connect on a more personal human level to offer aid to our fellow brothers and sisters following disasters.
Thank God for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and thank God for the teams of people assisting in this disaster. I'd also like to add a thankyou to the United States Military and specifically the United States Navy for responding quickly to Haiti to assist in getting things organized and coordinated. Thanks Navy and Marines. Oorah!
