commercial animal slaughter. they feed the products from this plant back to the animals and the meat you buy at stores contains this product...these animals have eaten their relatives by products and you eat the meat. This is modern meat production...not like the old days when the cow came off the range to the table...grass fed. Meat was pure in those days. Wild game is the only good source of meat now.
Let's just keep hammering on them and then were is this stuff treated when they close. There is alot of ranching done in the area and Provo did not want it, but gave them money to help transition it to a new location because it was needed. We could just take all the animals to the dump and that smell and contamination will still be in the air with no other benefits realized. Let's compromise a little to help there business!
Drove by the plant the other day. It is so far out in the sticks that the odor shouldn't affect anyone.
make them pay. People use that water in chicken creek down stream (in Mills etc.). If they were dumping that junk on my land I would sue them for everything they have; sounds like they don't know how to manage their own buisness.
Re: Maybe just too much
People usually eat herbivores. Why would they be feeding cows and chickens a meat based feed? I think when they mentioned that it gets used in animal food they were talking about dog and cat food. I'm no expert though so I could be wrong.
Definitely a good service. I think all businesses try to weigh the cost/benefit of running their operation or running a clean operation. I think a lot of business wouldn't be very clean if they could get away with it. Hopefully these guys can make everyone happy. They are sitting on a gold mine since they are the only guys in town.
Chickens aren't herbivores, nor are they really picky eaters. Granted they eat a lot of grain, but I've seen them try & eat snakes & mice.
Raise your own. It really isn't that hard to dump grain into a feed bin and fill a trough with water. If you want uncontaminated beef you need to raise it yourself. Kuhnis provides a valuable service because no one wants dead animals around. They just need better management.
"Chickens aren't herbivores, nor are they really picky eaters."
Very true.
As a city boy helping gather eggs on my uncle's farm, I was shocked to see the chickens eagerly swoop in and eat an egg that I had dropped accidentally. They loved it, even though it came from one of them.
And yes, if the Kuhnis didn't run the plant, someone else would. It's a disgusting but absolutely necessary industry.
I have the honor of having receiving J. Kuhni's old business phone number when they left provo almost 6 years ago. After repeated appeals for help, they have refused to inform their current clients that their number has changed...almost 6 years ago. The old number is still printed on the side of their trucks, containers and on their billing paperwork. I still receive 10-20 calls for them per day, including MANY bill collectors trying to track them down. WalMart's from around the region call me at least 6 times per day!
I think they have a genuine lack of concern for anyone but themselves, and I hope Juab County will just give them the boot.
JKS does not deserve ANY further help or consideration from the government.
I know their customers are VERY frustrated and baffled by their lack of support and credibility, I know that, because I get to speak with most of them on a regular basis by phone!
CLEAN up your act JKS or GET OUT!!!
Well this is just another one of those things we're none of you have a clue what you're talking about. to whoever said if the Kuhni's didn't do it someone else would. There is not a family in the state of Utah that could do the kind of work that is required to make it run. The past 8 years or so it has gone down hill fast. Yes because of its lack of care and responsible management. But if anyone can turn that business around it will be Greg and Paul.
And to everyone that doesn't no anything also. The meat and bone mill is not slabs of meat given to animals to eat. it is simply a protein additive. Humans need protein and so do animals.
Maybe do a little bit of research before you go and bash on someone not knowing what is actually is
Kuhni's is a necessity to the Stat of Utah.
and it will take time to clean up.
