Thanks for your service...and condolences to your handler and family.
Koda, thank you for your service. Not only did you help in the apprehension of the suspect but you gave your life for your partner. You will be missed and again thank you.
Dang it. This has me in tears.
The dog was trained to attack. The suspect had a gun. He shot a dog that attacked him. How was it justified for anyone to run around a corner a moment later and kill the suspect? It's sickening to see news reports that value the life of a dog over that of a human being however flawed. It's sad when reporters adopt the attitudes of the group that they cover instead of asking the hard questions. How was it that an officer was returning fire, as reports said, when the officer was not on the same side of the building and not in the line of sight of the shooter? If you had ever been attacked by a big dog, you know you would have shot Koda yourself.
thanks "KODA"
Another replacement in thier k-9control
well cared for Buffed strong Police dog on Duty!
As a owner of a guide dog, I feel your pain. I am so sorry for your loss. When you lose such a special valuable dog such as Koda, it feels like you've lost your child. My prayers our with you and your family during this time of sorrow.
God bless you for protecting us,
Oh wow its just a dog, who cares?.. i sure dont!
who was shot and killed in this incident. A dog's life is valuable, but a man's life is more. Much more.
Are you people still going at it over a dogs death. This is getting totally insane. Seek some help for your mental conditions. IT IS NOT NORMAL!
As a former K-9 Officer I know the Joy of having a partner that cares for you as these dogs do their love has no bounds. I fell sorry for people that have never had that experience. WELL DONE KODA.
Greetings:
Since the DESERET NEWS staff refused to publish my own response, it pleases me to see several other comments which also oppose this unseemly mockery.
An opposing view can lend a semblance of balance to popular insanity.
Thank you.

How much money was spent on this event?
I hope in these times of fiscal responsibility that everyone volunteered their time and were not paid to participate.
Losing a cherished animal can be tough but losing a child is somehow the same pain ? I dont think so
Oh wow its just a dog, who cares?.. i sure dont!
Just a dog!!! I don't think so. He was a police officer and I think that it was pretty neat that they honored him this way
I cannot believe the remarks that this is "just a dog." This dog was a partner of one of your policeman, guarding his life every minute of working hours.
To bad this unlawful individual was killed too, not a bit of sadness comes from me for him. I grieve for the animal, who did nothing wrong but try to keep things within the law.
What is wrong with you people?? I don't live in Utah and am glad I don't if that is your attitude toward this. Shame on you, all of you!!!!!! Give credit where credit is due, whether it be human or an animal, your comments are unbelievable.
Seems like a little much to me.
Wow, this is weird.
I still haven't met a human being I like as much as any dog i've known.
What fitting tribute to a K9 hero.
To all the unbelievable boors on this message board who are saying, "all this for a dog!" I will restrain from saying something that will only be censored. But FYI, funerals and tributes are for the living. You know, the human beings who loved, trained, and served with this beautiful and intelligent animal that was serving PEOPLE, US, SOCIETY, MAKING THE WORLD A SAFER PLACE. Dogs are amazing and brilliant and loyal. And some of you people could learn a lot from them.
Just A Dog? Are you kidding me, that animal put his life on the line to save his handler and fellow officers, have you ever done anything so brave or selfless. Probably not, I feel sorry for people who do not know the love and companionship that a animal can give. yes, a human was also killed, a human who made a decision to go out and break the law. My heart goes out to these officers and I grieve for their loss. Koda was a hero and deserved to be treated as one.
