Is it just me, or does this picture--combined with the silly things he recently said on the radio--make it hard to take this guy seriously?
Herbert fell because of the media and Dems making him out to be some right wing fanatic. When voters get to know Herbert, they will feel more comfortable with him. I still don't think a non-mormon Democrat has a very good shot at winning a state-wide office.
Has my vote, it's time for a change- Corroon has been a good mayor for SL County, his integrity and experience make him a good choice for Governor
Hello Gov. Corroon...!!!
I'm certainly willing to take a look at Corroon but worry about voting for any Democrat given what's going on in Washington, DC today. I have voted for both the Matheson brothers (Scott for Utah gov and Jim for US Congress) but find I am increasingly reluctant to give the Democratic party any more power. I hope that Herbert will actually show who he is and what he can do soon because so far he seems like a no-show to me. No offense intended.
I wish we had some viable independent candidates both locally and nationally who are not beholden to either the Democrat or Republican parties and who are not influenced by special interests groups.
I hope Utahns are mature enough to look past a candidate's religion and consider some more important factors. I think Corroon's political philosophy comes closer to the average Utahn's than does Gov. Herbert's. Corroon is a pragmatic guy who values the same things most of us do: education, fiscal responsibility, transparency in government, accountability. He doesn't lean terribly far toward either edge of the political spectrum, which I think is also true for most Utahns (but not necessarily the vocal minorities we hear so much from, like the Eagle Forum).
This Utah County Mormon looks forward to supporting Mayor Corroon's campaign.
So you are saying being Mormon is a requirement to win your vote?
Mr. Corroon, meet 35%. You and 35% will be spending a lot of time together.
... betrayed a bit with Huntsman leaving for China and then being stuck with Herbert, of whom few really knew or considered when voting for Huntsman in the first place.
What bothers me the most with Herbert is the sudden change in the state's economic development where they were moving forward with clean technology, renewable energy, and progressive business opportunities. Huntsman was very popular with pro-progress moderates and industry in the state.
But that has all changed now with our oil and gas man in the governor's seat. He's ready to give our water away to Nevada. He's allowing toxic waste in. He's denying climate change amongst the world's top scientists. What happened? This isn't the governor we voted for!
If people think that 19th century coal, oil and gas are Utah's future, they're in for a rude awakening when carbon taxes and restrictions (already on the way from regional and federal policies) escalate energy rates throughout the west. Guess who will get stuck with the higher energy costs? Utah rate payers!
I like Corroon's fiscal conservatism and progressive energy and business ideas. He'll attract new industry to Utah.
Since when is being behind by double digits something great? Oh Yeah, When Dems tell the numbers. Wake up people it is the Likes of Corroon and his cronies that are the problem. You might as well elect Pelosi or Reid they are all the same. Don't give up your freedom to these that are promising security. They Lie!
Carroon's got my vote.
Allowing 3,000 tons of radioactive depleted uranium in Utah did not help my image of Gov Herbert.
I hate to get my hopes up, but it would be really nice to have someone more like Gov Huntsman in office, Corroon has my vote.
Our last Rino governor, John Huntsman, did a fabulous job, and Carroon is definitely to the right of Huntsman. There is too much "group think" in Utah government, we need a little more diversity.
I'm willing to look at Corroon as soon as I know the answers to the following questions:
What are his views on:
1. New Taxes
2. Ethics Reform
3. Illegal Immigration
4. Gay Rights
5. Abortion
5.
It is not good for one party to be in control for so long. A good sweeping change is actually very good for the state and Corroon just might be the guy to do it. Plus his stance for an increase in public education and keeping waste out of Utah will be good selling points.
He has very little chance of winning. He might take Salt Lake and possibly Summitt counties but rural/suburban Utah will never support him. He's a liberal and while Utah has supported a Democratic Governor, Scott Matheson Snr, Corroon is not Scott Matheson. I personally am an Independent but until I know more about his positions on issues which are of concern to me I can't consider him. The Democrats are making such a mess in Washington, that Democrat is a dirty word to me at the moment. I'm not overly thrilled with Herbert either although he does seem to "less of a politician".
I just wish we had someone running who I really wanted to vote for...I guess I can write me own name in rather then vote for an "incumbent" or a "moderate democrat. Anyone with actual principles and innovations want to throw their hat in the ring? I am so sick of the global warming fanatics...give it a rest!
This is going to be a BIG Republican year. The guy doesn't have a snowball's chance.
My prediction is that caroon will lose. We the people of the country remember.
I don't think Corroon is a bad person nor do I think he's done a terrible job as Salt Lake County mayor. However, I vowed never to vote for him because of his stance on the Rio Tinto Stadium. Thanks to Jon Huntsman, we have the beautiful stadium and a championship soccer team. Sorry Peter, you've lost my vote!
