The man is a legend and i love the guy as a coach and friend!
I will miss him!!! There's no doubt!! It was hard to swallow when he told us he was retiring, but it had to happen sometime. Just wish it wasn't now and not like this! Love you Coach!!!

Coach Cramblitt failed me on my first drivers license driving test. The roads were icy and I couldn't tell I was on the wrong side of the road... Good luck in retirement coach

former jd coach

Coach Cramblitt mentioned he will even miss the Umpires...being a current High School Umpire myself, I know I speak for many of my associates when I say we will miss him as well. Coach Cramblitt gave us all our share of grief as all coaches do. Unlike all coaches...he always kept himself under control and displayed class and professionalism at all times. He is truly a class act.

JD News??

I often have to wonder if this is Deseret News or Juan Diego News?? I am so tired of the paper covering the SAME ole teams in EVERY sport year after year after year. I know Juan Diego is just SO special, but come one, enough is enough.

I had the privilege of working under Steve for 3 years, he was my athletic director at Juan Diego while I was the head wrestling coach. I would like to thank Steve for all that he did for me, I learned a lot. Steve is a great coach and mentor, I will always have the up most respect for him. God bless you Coach Cramblitt, you are an inspiration to many of us.

Fellow HS baseball coach

Steve has done so much to raise the level of play in our state over the last 3 decades. People may not realize, but our talent here in Utah is well-regarded by the professional and collegiate ranks, especially for a cold-weather state. This is due largely in part to coaches like Steve who have made their programs very competitive. From what I know of Steve, he has a passion for baseball and for helping mold young men that is primary in his efforts as a coach and teacher. What an impact he has made, good luck Coach and good luck to Juan Diego baseball! Here's to your improved health.

Sorry to see you go

I played against his taylorsville teams when I was in High school and now have umpired many of his teams games. He is a class act. His team has a swagger (but not in a bad way). He treats opponents, his players and umpires with respect. He expects the best of everyone involed with the game, that is why the game will miss him. Still see you around as the AD I'm sure, good luck you will be missed.

Thanks for everything

Big loss for us in the athletic world, but glad to see he's going to slow down a little and time some time for himself. Keeping his hand in the action as an AD is a plus for the young athletes he will continue to mentor. God Bless; thanks for everything.

Former JD Player

I played for Coach Cramblitt my junior and senior years at JD. He was a great coach. He by far ran some of the toughest practices of anyone I ever played for but in the end it was worth it because we were better prepared when we got to the state tournament. Good luck coach and hope your health gets better. They'll miss you out there as a coach

As a registered umpire with the state for the past 35 plus years, I can attest to Mr. Cramblets coaching style, and his manor of professionalism. He has always presented himself highly. As the president of the umpire asson.in northern utah, and as the assistant assigner of umpires to high school games, I think that I have a good handle on this man. While he was an assistant coach at Taylorsville under Ron Rushton, his skills were acquired and he has retained them while coaching at Tville, and for the past several years at Juan Diego. In his duties as athletic director at Juan Diego, he is always on top of his scheduling and relaying the correct information to people such as myself and the High School Act. Asson. As to his coaching. I have found in my many years of umpiring the sport, we often has disagreements, however, when dealing with steve, he was always professional and handled himself with respect. His players showed the same respect. We will miss him on the field.I speak for all of our umpires in wishing him continued good health. GOOD JOB WELL DONE GOOD LUCK

High School Baseball Fan

I don't know Coach Cramblitt at all, but have respected his programs for years. I played against TVille when he coached and had only wished to play for him. He seems like a great man and was for sure a great coach. Best of luck to him and his family and thanks for preparing your teams like you did. By doing so, it helped our team practice and prepare better which made baseball in Utah that much better.

Is that A.K.A. "Slim"? from Tooele.

Steve,
I hate to see you leave but I am glad you are doing what is best for you and your family. You have been a great mentor, friend, and opponent. Thanks for all you have done for baseball.

I was privileged to watch Steve coach my son at Skyline. He took a mediocre program and made it into a region champion and state contender. When he left for Taylorsville he was missed and the difference between him and the one who replaced him was profound. It didn't take long to fall back into mediocrity. Thanks for a touch of greatness Steve.

How does one retire from their soul? Steve worked with high school athletes with the intention of making them productive, successful young men in society. Steve was blessed to have baseball as an instrument of communication, enabling him to watch his players' transition. When his teams were victorious, it was the players who won. When his teams took home a lower score than the opponent, he replayed the games in his head, wondering what he could have done differently. Sure, coaches like to win, but with Steve, it was always about what the players learned, losing and loss were not in his vocabulary. The hardest part of retiring has yet to come for Steve, when the ball is thrown out the first day of practice, when the bat clanks with the sound of a homer, and when the umpire yells, "Let's play ball!" Please remember the respect Steve had for your sons, and his love for the game. His biggest success is watching his players pay it forward to the next generation of ballplayers. Honey, your final home run brings you safely back to home base--you are a champion. Natalie, Brooke and I love you very much.

Coach Cramblitt:

You touched many lives. My brother speaks very highly of you still today. Utah baseball will miss you very much. All the best in your next pursuits in life.

As the principal of Juan Diego Catholic High School, I have been able to watch one of Utah's greatest high school coaches do his work over these last few years. The reason Steve is a legend is that his coaching goes beyond what he knows about baseball to what he teaches young men about life. He is the ultimate role model for young people - work hard, be loyal, and respect yourself, others and the game.
JD will miss him as a coach but we are grateful that we can retain him as our AD as his work with young coaches in our other sports is equally impressive. Thanks, Steve for all that you have done for JD.

regarding jd news comment about the des news coverage of juan diego....are you kidding me? It may be true regarding other topics but we are talking about probabably the best high school coach this state will ever see. With that being said, yeah there should probably be an article about him. You will be missed Coach. Hope you enjoy your retirement. From Down South.
