I agree that religion is the answer to the sensitvity in the Middle East. There is room for all of us in this world of confusion. If we would only agree to make room for all religions, there would be great prospects for peace. One prerequisite would be necessary, the lack of selfish desires, and the realization that we all came from the same God. Otherwise, there would be more than one God. Many are looking for purpose, and that purpose can be found in God.

Eli

The Rabbi is correct, Mideast peace is as close as Isreal owning and governing the middle east as directed by God. Palisinians should find a new home in a new world in America.

@Russell Hilburn 8:35p.m.:

"I agree that religion is the answer to the sensitivity in the Middle East."

Ar you kidding? The two major religions in the region have been at each others throat for decades... even centuries.

The only logical way to get eventual peace in that area is to take over the schools and teach the kids democracy and tolerance each other. That will take a least several generations.

JoeBlow to Eli

you write "Mideast peace is as close as Isreal owning and governing the middle east as directed by God. Palisinians should find a new home in a new world in America."

Did you even read the article? Do you understand the concept? Dont you understand that not everyone shares the same understanding of what god wants?

I take it that Conflict Resolution isn't your strong suit.

And what would be your solution to Muslim Terrorists?

I fear that proposing intervention by the Church is nothing more than an ego-stroking exercise.

howdy

Actually, the Church has positive relations with Israel and Palestine. Many of the influential Palestinians' children attend BYU because it is a modest place to receive higher education in the states. Although opposed at first, the Israelis have grown to appreciate the Jerusalem Center because of the weekly free concerts, put on by the best talent in Europe. Although highly unlikely, I feel it was more than an "ego-stroke," rather an unlikely true desire. That being said, I believe there will not be peace in the middle east, regardless of the negotiators, until both side come from Old Testament style beliefs to a type of New Testament beliefs. An eye-for-an-eye is just not working.

Love the idea. Little else has worked so far, and the Twelve are endowed to do such miracles...

I met the Rabbi in 1995 and I think that he is a suber interlocutor.

God bless Him, Israel, and the Palestinians.

JoeBlow to Klinch

"and the Twelve are endowed to do such miracles..."

Oh please, spare me. You think that kind of attitude would endear the Israeli's or the Palestinians?

Nimbyl

I believe its a heartfelt sentiment, but a lot of hearts will have to soften before such an offer would do anything but cause a backlash of suspicious speculation. Surely the rabbi is aware of the hullabaloo with some Jews over baptisms for the dead. The Church operates worldwide and even now violent extremists could easily target members and missionaries anywhere in the world simply because we are an American church. Thankfully the Twelve know what the Lord wants them to do.

What a farce. Write a real article.

Nothing else has worked, so its worth a try. On the other hand is all of the prophesy that it won't work.

The Islamic world has done little to endear itself to the somewhat more civilized, rest of the world.

JoeBlow: Thank you "Captain" Atheism!
I think that the twelve could do much good even if it were as a mediation group. Why not give them the chance. Your sarcasm is really not needed at this point.
I am so tired of the constant harping on the church that goes on in these comment boards. Even when the story has nothing to do with the church people like you have to make it about the church. Give it a break man.

rocky

As a Latter-day Saint living in the south, it's easy to believe the elimination of certain religous groups might be beneficial to peace.
Interaction with certain groups have been disappointing, to say the least, at most,a challenge to my families security. A tight lipped Latter-day Saint is a welcome Mormon.

Religion is the route to all evil.

Gurrr

Wow, Jay give it a break. Your harping isn't any better. "Please" go back to bed.

hay, Jay

What else can you expect on a church site? People will never see eye to eye on religion, so get over it. You are just letting old scratch get to you, and you are reading much more into this than what you should. Calm down, man.

Bolt

So, Rocky what kind of eliminations are you talking about? It sounds scary. Kinda reminds me of Hitler trying to eliminate the Jews. There is a no win game in any such thing. You cannot just eliminate people because they don't look the same, dress the same or believe the same.

Jay,

Nobody is forcing you to read the comments!

Ever heard of free agency and self control?

I guess not...

Religion poisons everything.

Especially Jay's mind!

I think it is an idea that deserves consideration. If the First Presidency & Quorum of the Twelve decided to do it, then I have the confidence that there would be very positive results. If they ignored the idea, then that's the best path to follow. (It doesn't really matter if people like JoeBlow and Anonymous choose to put down Church Leadership because it is obvious they do not understand the nature of God.) My faith in the Leadership's actions is based on many experiences I have had during my lifetime, so... if they took the challenge, I would look for good results. However, I have not yet developed fully the ability to brush off negative comments, so I allow myself to feel bad, which is nobody's fault but mine.

JoeBlow to Jay

Never said I was atheist. Agnostic maybe.

Yes, as mediators possibly. Although I am not sure of their qualifications concerning conflict resolution.

I doubt that the POPE would be highly regarded in attempting to settle this issue either.

My comment was directed at the notion that the "12" had a good shot at helping because, unlike the Jews and the Palestinians, they are "endowed to do miracles."
