Utahans, I feel your pain, but really, what good is having a prophet in the land if we don't heed his advise and live within our means? Please, everyone, keep your debt under control. Sure you may not get to have everything the Jones have, but face your income and deal within it. At times like these you will be glad you did, and you won't make our Pretty Great State look like it has the least responsible individuals in the country.
Utah is the number one state for keeping up with the JONEs's....
I am sad, and ashamed.
We lived in our little 1400 sqft
3 bd, 1 ba
40 year old house and raised 4 in it.
We NEVER owned a new car or new TV set.
But We got out, and stayed out of debt,
because the prophet told us to do it.
Do you think it hurt to see
kids half my age in NEW houses
5 times bigger,
with all the bells and whistles,
and 2 kids in diapers driving new Cadillac Escalades? Ya, you bet.
Now they cry for the Government to save them.
I don't know which test in life was harder to bare:
Seeing them have everything while we sacrificed,
or
Biting my tongue from calling them HYPOCRITES.

Some day we will be when its time of RETIREMENT And Only.In a small house that we can fix up on our own repairs wow,Thanks America!
Dont get fooled from a Scammer who steals
So too many people bought homes they can't afford and so Obama wants to fix the problem by giving others new money to buy homes they can't afford? Am I the only one that sees that this will just perpetuate the problem?
To McMansion SUV's
I detect your jealousy, and I think Its called coveting and feeling sorry for yourself. Get over it, because there are others much worse off than you. Be thankful for what you do have and don't worry about what your young neighbor has that you don't have. It's not righteous when we covet what others have. Find happiness in your family. They are all that truly matter.
For what I have not much but were Cozy in luv with some Joy to keep Happy!
That person was and is not envying anyone, especially hypocrites like you. They are saying be practical and use some wisdom with your earnings. The message was they were proud americans who didn't rely on government or debt to live and raise their kids. Unlike you young and sheep of the world today, they did it on their own with pride and not squandering their earnings. Mr Envy is the one who should be shamed for his inability to live on his own merits. His attitude is why our economy is in trouble.
Credit and debt is a curse as many have been learning, the hard way. The young generations think their parents are nuts and stupid for staying out of debt but we are having the last laugh. You failed to listen. The rewards are minimal, and gut wrenching for parents to watch, as our young continue to lose all their dreams with greed and lust for debt. We are not envious, we are shaking our heads in disbelief that our young have allowed themselves to victimized by greed and false dreams.
To "Wow", you know nothing about President Obama's efforts to stem the foreclosure crisis. Instead of cheap partisan shots, talk about factual issues. And don't forget the role of prior Administrations, including Clinton's and, more seriously, Bush's, in contributing to the problem through poor supervision and oversight. Regulation works, folks.
It's not just young people who have been irresponsibile. In fact, there are a lot of thirtysomethings like me who will be left holding the bag when millions of Baby Boomers who saved too little for retirement drain the Social Security funds and cause me to have to pay higher taxes to support the entitlements they will no doubt vote for themselves.
Re 4:42 & McSUV's
Kinda looks like someone rattled your cage. I have to agree with the comment from 11:08. There are too many people in the church who condemn others for what they do not have. I grew up poor and I have seen this happen. To call some one a hypocrite because they have more than you is pure adulterated hate and envy. I would say, perhaps go back to school and get over your judgmental hate of others which is very apparent and hypocritical. I hope you are religious if you claim a religion. But probably not.
Try to have a nice life.
For what we own...
of greedy people you have to deal with
the goverment of false
actions he tried but its worse now!
Change for the worse.
My wife & I got in over our heads with debt. We didn't buy "too much house," but we did get over our heads with credit card debt and a home equity loan. Now, with the exception of our mortgage, we are debt-free. How did it happen, you ask?
My grandfather, a child of the Depression, who lived frugally and invested wisely his entire life, passed away and we inherited a portion of what remained of his investments, that has given us just enough to pay off the consumer debt and the taxes that will be due on the inheritance.
If you think I didn't feel humiliated and humbled by undeservedly benefitting his financial example, you'd be wrong. Prior to receiving the inheritance, I was working two jobs just to keep our heads above water and SLOWLY pay our debt down. It was truly a bondage (or at least indentured servitude) of our own making. Grateful at having been delivered, we make do with less now, and look much more to what we need instead of simply what we want. More than anything, we wish we hadn't been so foolish in the first place.
I brought a home and have it pay for. It wasn't till I was in my late 30s that I could afford it and then I made sure I could meet the montly note. I never try to keep up with the Jones. I worked for the state and the pay wasn't great and I was raised in a miltary family, so I learned how to save up for what I wanted. Social Securty I have paid in all my life, not like some pople who never work but get check for SSI and how the Govt robbeys peter to pay paul.
As some of Us are not that rich but not too poor..
Life in general were still living within the cost of living..
May not have much But we have a place to live and have a fridge full of food And thiers only 2 of us)
...wow, that would be nice.
I'm in your boat before the inheritance. 2 jobs, TONS of debt, bondage. Upside-down on my house, my net worth is -$100,000. Not because I borrowed to buy fancy stuff, but I borrowed unwisely just the same. I started a business with borrowed money and it failed.
I can make the monthly payments so I don't think bankruptcy is an option, but it looks like I have about 5-10 more years of "humbling" to go through before I can "make do with less" by choice.
