Prayers for them

We are keeping them in our prayers. The members there seem like wonderful people. God bless them and help them in their time of need.

I don't think anyone will ever really know the amount of the massive help the church will provide to Haiti- come on you nattering nabobs, find something to critisize about the relief effort. If you want to help volunteer at a storehouse or welfare square or donate funds...God Bless the people of the island!

I was glad to see an article in the DN since we live in California and knew the Church would respond right away, but did not know the condition of the mission and Members. Appreciate the fact it was on my Yahoo news.

Hurrah!! For the LDS Church, If only the Governments of the World including the U.S. could be so effective.

The LDS church is doing the most Christian thing anyone can do in times of need. The Church is doing what Christ would do. I admire and always respect the LDS Church for its Christian and Christlike principles and practice. By their fruits you shall know them....Bravo and my hat off to the LDS Church.

Wonderful. I hope this doesn't somehow turn into a LDS bashing blog. Our prayers are with those who are in need.

Some Good News

Amazingly the Missionaries are all safe. They are in a position now to provide service to the immense relief efforts.

I am anxious to hear more details of the Church's response to the tragedy.

Doesn't the Church have vast humanitarian aid funds on hand. I thought part of the tithing funds are used for situations such as these.

Light Hearted

They Said in the last major devastion that the only 2 churches that showed up to help were "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints" and I believe the other Church was "The Mormons"

THANKFUL

You know, we all read such negative comments about the Church in this forum almost on a daily basis. I believe it will continue.

But I applaud the First Presidency and the organizations in the Church who are prepared at a moment's notice to help people throughout the world when they are in need.

Hopefully we can put all of our differences and biases and misconceptions aside, pray for those in Haiti and other places where devastation is rampant, and collectively be thankful to a Heavenly Father for groups such as the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints who are willing to reperesent the Savior Jesus Christ in their humanitarian efforts to help those in need regardless of religious affiliation.

doesn't the church have humanitarian kits on hand. The wards throughout the church make them and ship them to Salt Lake. I suspect they have millions on hand..

Let US ALL Remember these people affected by the earthquake in Our Prayers.

California has been getting earthquakes more often and intense than normal recently. Hopefully, these releases of seismic energy will help take down
some of the stress of the tectonic plates and their movement.

God Bless.

I agree with the 11:23 poster. The LDS Church is indeed organized, but let's not think for a moment that we are more charitable than others.

Thank heaven for the LDS Church!

It may not seem like much...

Sure hygiene kits may seem like not much. And yes, they do need MAN POWER and $$$ to dig out and rebuild. But stop and think, that the secondary devastator after the initial catastrophe is DISEASE and STARVATION. The church may not be able to clear all the rubble and erect a new city for them, but sending hygiene kits and food immediately is an incredible effort in stemming the tide of disease and starvation that will ravage the survivors. I am so grateful to see this happening.

Hey, Anonymous, you criticized the church when it used to contribute anonymously to humanitarian efforts. You criticized the church for not revealing how it spent its funds. Now you criticize the church for revealing how it spends its humanitarian funds, which are donated by church members and other intelligent people who realize there is no other organization that passes on the entire amount of a contribution toward the relief it is intended to provide. The church uses tithing funds to finance its organization, church houses, etc.

If you really care about the people in Haiti, rather than using every opportunity to bash the Mormons, why don't you volunteer to work at the church's welfare canneries, mills, cheese factories or ranches that produce food for the poor? Don't talk behind the anonymous moniker, doing nothing but knocking those who seek to good, while failing to serve yourself. I don't know of any organization that generates the sort of volunteer service for welfare recipients that the LDS church does. Or would you rather have inefficient government take over all welfare and foreign humanitarian aid? If so, just vote for those who would grow government and raise taxes.

I don't see anywhere that we are the only people helping. I am glad my funds are going to help these people. What are YOU doing besides posting negative comments. I have a feeling that your life is nothing but negativity. Go out and provide service to someone and you will feel amazingly better about yourself. You will probably feel so good and be so productive that you won't have the time to post on LDS articles.

Heaven help them if only one church of members number 13 million helping. All the article said was it's missionaries, none from N America were assigned, are safe. There are 8 million people living in Haiti. There are only 50,000 missionaries in the world from the LDS church and they aren't all in Haiti. How many are there?

Yes in a city that has been flattened let's dig out those emergency kits. Honestly they have to come in from abroad and the church has already started to load/ship.

My guess is the UN food bank, the US government various Catholic orgnaizations and the Red Cross will bear the most effort. But it isn't a contest. The population and already impoverished conditions required many working to rebuild and build up. This isn't a country where you want to get things back to the way it was before the disaster. More is needed.

Not this time

kiaoraguy | 10:35 a.m.- nope, not this time. I don't agree with everything the church does, however handling crises and being compassionate in emergencies is when the LDS church really shines.
