Hopefully, we will not have all the roadblocks from environmentalist that we had last time around with the Legacy Highway. The overall environment was actually worsened by the delays in Legacy due to the increases in traffic and the constant slow downs. I believe congestion was cut in half by Legacy. There is a true and tremendous need for this corridor to continue North from Legacy for the same reasons there was a need for Legacy Highway. One side environmental benefit of the added corridor would be better air quality due to significantly reduced congestion. I take the train to SLC to work and therefore am not affected by being caught in traffic myself. However I am honest enough to recognize that most currently and will continue to drive to SLC as a primary source of transportation. An honest pragmatic approach is the best solution. I believe this is extending Legacy North through this proposed corridor.
Will UDOT ever recognize the need for an east-west freeway in cental and southern Salt Lake County? They think traffic only moves from north to south on the Wasatch Front and don't realize that Salt Lake County is a "square" valley. The only place they are offering an east-west corridor is in Utah County to serve the 4,000 people in Alpine. Take a drive and see where the problems are.
