What a warm fuzzy feeling. Tell that to the starving children of the world. Tell that to those dying in wars throughout the world.
Great counsel from a humble leader who is part of a church who's members feed the hungry, provide wheelchairs, build wells, provide free vaccinations and disaster relief, and a thousand other projects around the world and locally. Along with other great religious (Catholic Relief Services and Islamic Relief to name two) and non-religious groups, such people are worthy of admiration and emulation instead derision.
To CRAZY OLDMAN,
I think you are a CRAZY OLDMAN!
Let the anti-Mormon rhetoric begin. Way to go oldman, looks like you have nothing better to do.
Yes, we have seen the service provided here in Colombia-South America where I live.
I have watched the video of that aircrafts path from when the geese impacted the engines, up to the plane's contact with the water. The captain's voice at no time displayed any sign of perturbation. He was in control of both himself and the aircraft all the time. His discipline was the thing that most impressed me. He was concentrating purely on what he had to do to bring that crippled jet down with the minimum loss of life. Love may make the world go round, but discipline to God's laws keep it on its course! Of all disciplines, Self Discipline is the best, and the most difficult to aquire! The respected elder could not have chosen a better example for ANYONE to follow!
Granted, the poor and hungry of the world would probably not need that, but since each of us become the "poor and hungry" at some time, before we can help others we often need to help ourselves out of dispair and anguish. While Oldman may not see my needs as desperate as being poor and hungry, they are, neveretheless, very real to me. I know that both Sully's heroic actions and Bro. Anderson's reminder to us help me prepare for worse things ahead and make me better able to serve the poor and the hungry.
There are, in life, both the hungry in body and spirit. Elder Anderson and the church, assist in both areas. You and I need to be grateful for people and organizations that are inspired and prepared enough to be able to help those in need throughout the world.
He failed to mention that the good Captain was not a Mormon but a Christian, and studied John wesley's values and solid Biblical principals.
What exactly is your point?
So, I guess that means Mormons can find inspiration in the actions of people of other religions and they're not totally closed-minded?
Get your talking point in order and get back to me.
"For he chose us in Christ before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight,he predestined us to be adopted as sons through Jesus Christ,in accordance with his pleasure and will." (Ephesians 1:4,5 NIV) The Elect of God
Does anyone know if the LDS Church spends more annually on real estate ventures like the downtown SLC project and the Hiwaiian hotel project or do they spend more on projects to relieve world hunger and poverty?
I loved this talk! It really made me think about the direction my life is taking!
Why is it any of your business how the LDS Church spends it's money? The LDS Church receives no government funding of any kind so they are not required to tell you how they spend their money. Funds are accounted for and reported annually, why don't you read the annual report if you are so interested. As a full tithe payer and if I had any concens about where my funds were going, I would read the report. Suffice it to say, much of the Church's charitable work is done quietly and without fanfare as it should be. Do they support causes which may offend some but are in-keeping with Chuch doctrine. Yes, they do, as they should. I expect them to take a stand on moral issues and if they use my funds to do it, so much the better.
TO- DEBBIE AND OLDMAN, I think yar both pledged with funny business. Give up the shouting match, and put this in your pipe an smoke it. LOL!
To Cal Reader: Are you referring to the downtown SLC project that has been a blessing to the economy of Utah, and provides jobs to so many construction workers during this recession our country is in?! I wouldn't worry about how the Church spends its money if I were you--I certainly don't. I personally worry much more about how our country's president is spending our trillions of dollars.
To: To Cal Reader: I don't care where the LDS church spends its money, as long as donations are not tax deductible and the church pays taxes on its income. If you deduct your tithes then the church should have to account for the money. I don't say this meanly. I say it to all tax exempt organizations.
re:Fredd
There are several political parties that love more more and more taxes. Check out the democrats, socialists of America, or the communists.
The Church pays taxes on all the real estate it purchases. The Church does not live off the FAT of the donations either. Whoever is complaining is not any of the ones sacrificing sending our sons and daughters in missions etc and committed to keeping the commandments, you know-- being obedient as a choice. It is called freedom of religion, as well as freedom of speech to say an opinion either way. It is so blatantly obvious those who complain about how the Church whatever it does, are not embracing its membership nor enjoys the blessings of it. This article has nothing to do about what is criticized by the few. Good is Good and Evil is evil. Not good evil, and evil good. If the shoe fits. . . .
