This may be the D-News, but I will not hesitate in saying - Congratulations to you Chris, and to the lucky couple who will be the proud papas. I am absolutely excited for the entire process.

I think this story is wonderful! I am so happy for the couple and I am so grateful that Ms Johnson is in office here in Utah. What a gift she is giving to her friends!

The world would be a MUCH MUCH better place if there were more kind, loving people like Rep. Johnson and less judgemental people like "Corey"!

Wishin you all the best Christine!

"She says that before agreeing to be the surrogate, she did online research about how surrogate mothers cope with handing over a child after pregnancy."

I doubt that research can prepare one for this difficulty, especially since it is her own biological child.

What a lovely gesture. I wish all our Reps had a fraction of that sort of generosity of spirit.

Amazing story, and a very selfless thing to do for a childless couple.

Well done, Christine. Best for you and the baby through delivery and recovery, and for the new family afterward.

Go Christine! If more people shared your love of life and love in general, this world would be a better place. Congrats to you and the soon to be parents!

This, of course, presupposes that just by the nature of being gay, that a "supportive, loving home" is a given. Uh-huh.

I'm amazed at such generosity and class. That baby will have such a loving world to welcome him or her. Way to go, Christine!

@ What about normal parents | 3:51 p.m. Jan. 8, 2010
I would much rather see a child raised in a LOVING home with ACCEPTING parents thant to be raised in a home with "normal" parents.... because if you are considering yourself "normal" after being so judgemental and rude, you need to take a GOOD long hard look in the mirror and ask yourself: "who am I to judge another, when I walk imperfectly"

Let's take a rational look at this; two parent household, check! willing and informed birth mother, check! being born into a loving home, check!

Now, let's look at the cons; homophobes who think this is wrong because it is non-traditional, check! Adults who allow kids to pick on children with gay parents, check. antiquated laws against same-sex marriage, check!

It would seem that love has an uphill battle. I'm hoping love will win against hatred..... again!

Christine, you are awesome!! When I look at all of the children born to straight parents who not only did not want them, but abuse them, I believe that any child that has the opportunity to be raised by loving parents in a loving environment are indeed very, very lucky. I have an 18 yr old gay son. He is the most sensitive, caring, loving individual I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. He genuinely loves children and hopes for a family of his own some day. His children will be among the lucky ones.

No. Utah sees a major earthquake every 350 years. Last one? 350 years ago.
