Wow -- I just checked out the western soundscape web site. What a treat! This is a great idea, but it's too bad we need it. Development and environmental pollution really is crowding out the natural world. Thanks to these two gentlemen for doing something unique so future generations will know what our "wild West" used to sound like.
What a waste of our tax dollers!! It's grants like this that keep money from being spent to help people. Talk about government waste!
I disagree with "dbf." We need to draw attention to the plight of our disappearing wilderness. By getting out there to record the sounds of the West -- sounds that might not be there down the road -- these gentlemen are doing just that!
Fantastic project, money well-spent in every way. Maybe if we were not agressively encroaching on every living thing and eco-system on our planet we would not need it. But we are and we do. Kudos!
Fabulous job, Mr. Rice! I have so enjoyed listening to the archives. My students love it, too!
