I've thought about this case from time to time, this is as good as the news can get at this point. I'm glad to hear he's been locked up away from children for quite some time.
Another example of how DNA can solve cold cases. Based upon the history of the suspect, I would think this would be a slam-dunk death penalty case.
Thank goodness they've caught the guy. This has been such a disturbing and haunting case. Anna was a beautiful girl and she and her family deserve justice. I hope they lock the perp away for a long, long time. It makes me wonder how someone so young could be that depraved at the age of 19. RIP Anna.
Great news. Nothing can fix the harm that's been done but it has to be good for the family to know that the slug is not going to get away with it. Kudos to the PD.
The fact that this case took so long to solve rests squarely on the shoulders of the legislature. If the legislature had provided adequate funding for DNA testing in criminal investigations, this crime would have been solved long ago.
I am moderate when it comes to capital punishment, but not crime against children.
Such a sad story - and though it will never bring back Anna, at least her family has a sense of closure now. The detectives who kept at this really are heroes.
enforcement involved in this case! Way to go! This is great police work. Preserving the precious DNA evidence was key to solving this case I believe.
I too have thought about this case many times. Thankfully, the family may now have some form of belated closure.
RIP Anna.
Once again, bravo to the police and forensics workers who helped to catch this killer.
So it took 12 years to run the DNA they already had on file? That's really slow, will we be waiting 12 years for them to run the DNA evidence in the Susan Powell case too?
The fact that there is now better DNA technology and databases that can be accessed to solve cold cases is a tribute to this girl. Hallelujah! Case closed - and jolt the man!
Good Job IDAHO
Good-job IDAHO
'Locked up away from children for a time?' No, he is a murderer and must never get out to molest anyone or murder again.
You are making the assumption that the alleged killer's DNA was in the federal DNA database from day one of this murder investigation. It probably was not.
We are very lucky the police caught this child killer.
Not too mention that the technology and expense of testing and searching DNA databases has become faster and less expensive over recent years.
This is excellent news. I wish the guy had been locked up in the first place so he never had a chance to get to this little girl. Sad thing is, these guys always have some behavioral clues that people don't see. What a tragedy. Now, let's see this animal locked up for the rest of his life. No mercy, no release back into society EVER. God rest this child's soul and peace to her mother's spirit.
I'm so glad this killer was caught. Anna would be 21 now, a college Senior, living her life.
That's fantastic. Now the family can have some closure.
Sympathy to her family and especially her mother. While I am sure she is relieved to know that her daughter's murder has been solved...not a lot will change for her. I am sad that she has to re-live this again and believe this news will also bring a difficult time for her. A mixed blessing. I am betting her life has not been anything that she hoped it would be. These senseless crimes affect so many more lives than the victim. Wish I could say the community could just put this to rest, but it seems for every one they catch...there are so many more child predators out. May peace be with this mother during the weeks to follow.
Anna's father Dave just passed away on the 23rd of December. He never got over the loss of his daughter. Too bad this didn't come out before his death.

"I am moderate when it comes to capital punishment, but not crime against children."
I'm not sure I understand the logic behind this statement. And even if there is some logic, at what age (of the victim) would you quit supporting capital punishment? Eight? Twelve? Eighteen? And what would be the rationale behind the age you would choose?
