So how can we offer our support for this project? It seems the vocal minority always gets the press and attention since they don't have anything else to do all day besides protest progress and development. We are definitely lacking in quality sports facilities and since our tax money has already been spent on the soccer stadium we may as well let the Salt Lake Real's pitch in to help build us something useful.

Just Build It Already

How many years ago did this get approved and why has it not happened yet?! Just build the fields and stadium already!

Stamp of Approval

I think this is a great project. Let's get it done!!!!

Foolish Rush

Building this complex in the Jordan River flood plain is foolish and wasteful. A better spot would be ...

dont do it

we have enough baseball diamonds in utah lets not ruin the entire valley let some animals live in somewhat of peace.

R/C Park???

This appears to overrun the R/C park existing there... Are they going to relocate it? Unless they are, I don't approve.

Why have 17 soccer fields?

Tree Huggers

Hey green thumbs how about you walk five minutes to the mountains. City ground should be used not wasted on squirrels.

I Love It.

There should be a soccer complex in every city, just like this one. I only wish this one was closer to me. The opposition acts like the river bank starts and ends there; surely you can find another place to catch your bugs!

this is a great project. i know the soccer complex in west jordan started with 10 fields, it has expanded to somewhere around 20 fields. it is jam packed during the soccer season. this is great for the community. the only wild life living down by the river can relocate their tents elsewhere.

RC man

We where here first!.We fly RC models year round not just "in the season" If the City can find a better location closer to the people have your over priced soccer field there. LEVE US ALONE. Or find us A better location. And keep your word. About that Deal. Rember!!! Hard to play soccer in two feet of water..........

sad comments

I only hope the sheer ignorance of the possible environmental impact of such a project and why it is important to be addressed expressed on this forum are not shared by the city counsel and those that have proposed this project.

UNLV

The Sierra Club could care-a-less about that project. They only get involved so they can raise money by marketing their name to the public. The Sierra Club loves controversy. It is their #1 way of raising money to pay their overpaid execs.

Build the complex. Government is for the people, not the Sierra Club. Go hug a tree in the forest.

What's the definition of an enviromentalist: Someone who owns a cabin in the mountains and doesn't want anyone else to own one.

282 names...

Are all that have signed this petition. Not even newsworthy. Thousands of people will benefit from this complex. Just like the vocal minority to put something together at the 11th hour to derail a project that will not harm the environment.

JEK

All the previous studys done have shown the existing soccer complexes are under utilized as it is so in the wisdom of our goverment we should be building more to be underutilized in a spot that is some of the very little wet lands remaining and already serving a purpose to those that fly R/C aircraft. Such R/C sites are far and few between. Why destroy something that is being greatly utilized and in small supply only to replace it with something that all studys show is not needed.

green-conservative

Where is the Utah Taxpayers Association when we need them? The real issues are the green of our tax dollars more than nature’s green - but both are being unnecessarily wasted! This project was admittedly mis-underestimated and therefore sold to the public on false pretenses. Now that the economy has tanked and we already can't afford the rec centers and parks we have. How can we be building more? This is reckless behavior. The project is over budget two-fold! They will add another property tax levy to pay for it, beware. Where are my fellow Utah conservatives? Has soccer madness addled your senses?
You might also wish to note that on top of the ongoing taxpayer operating subsidies, all fields will be "fee for service", - and you will often be charged for parking to top it off. This one is all about real estate deals for REAL on adjacent properties they bought up. Let Sandy have this boondoggle, we are wasting our dollars. I'd even be willing to give them the $15M if they will inherit the rest of the red ink too. We have been played for fools by developers once again.
