I have heard the comment that if BSU played Oregon's schedule that they could not do it undefeated. The only thing that we know for sure is that if Oregon played BSU's schedule that they would have at least one loss (against BSU)!!!

Hairypatches

The B.C.S. (Big Crusty Sewersystem)simply means that we need to get out our neoprene's in all this "muck" (my wife won't let me use the cowboy term) and go find some fat cat nasty lawyers. They need to take them to court and let everyone know that we mean business about this monopoly and disparity of unequal pay in the division I college ranks. There is not two division ones unless we let them have their way. The courts are the only way to get their attention. Name every school, the NCAA, the alumni's, anyone connected to the program and go for damages. Come on mountain west, WAC, get the "gumption" (my wife won't let me mention anything related to the male anatomy that makes a man a man) to make it happen!.....

Oh wait a minute. Those folks in the MWC and the WAC might have wives too.

NEVER MIND!

All Talk

What about our President who said he'd "do something" about a playoff?

That's what I thought.

All Talk 2

If he has time to play basketball, and hold "beer summits" to get involved in a city's local affairs, he has time for the bcs.

MWC belongs

Much has been made about the MWC having the best bowl percentage this year. Yes, they are 4-0. The Big East is 4-2, Big 12 is 4-3, SEC is 5-4, Big Ten is 3-3 as is the ACC.

Compare the results against BCS conferences.
Some argue that the Big East is weak and undeserving of an automatic bid. The Big East is 1-1 v. SEC and 1-1 v. ACC. That's 2-2 v. BCS.

Others argue that the ACC is weaker. The ACC is 2-0 v. the SEC, 1-1 v. Big East, 0-1 v. Pac-10, and 0-1 v. Big Ten. That's 3-3 v. BCS.

The MWC is 2-0 v. Pac-10. Give the MWC a chance to play 2 more BCS opponents and, at worst, they'd be at the same level as the Big East and ACC.

During the Poinsettia Bowl Craig James was asked; "should the MWC be made an AQ in the BCS?" His answer was basicly that BYU, UTAH, and TCU could on specific dates compete, but not on a week to week basis during the regular season.....the MWC wasn't an "ELITE". That was the lamest answer I think I have ever heard. Do the 300+lb. MWC kids need additional extra time to pull themselves together as opposed to the BCS kids? After the MWC kids thump all over the BCS kids are the MWC kids just so shocked that they need extra time to reflect on what they have just done? I don't think so. The MWC can play week end and week out consistently against BCS schools, the numbers prove it. TCU should have been matched up with Florida and Boise State should have been matched up with Cincinnati if the BCS was so sure of themselves. But NO, the HEAT would have been unreal on the BCS if TCU and Boise State did to Florida and Cincinnati what Utah did to Alabama last year. The TCU-BSU matchup = NO HARM DONE TO THE BCS....thats all

Having TCU play BSU in the a Bowl game is a BIG SLAP IN THE FACE to those teams and their conferences. The BCS obviously does not want undefeated NON BCS teams to play and possibly beat BCS conference teams. It is a sad situation when a private for profit organization controls who gets to play in their so called National Championship bowl game. Until all conference champions have an equal opportunity to play in a National Championship game or tournament the fans will never be satisfied.
THE BCS CHAMPIONSHIP BOWL GAME does not qualify as THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP BOWL GAME.
I write this knowing that my Florida Gators would not have qualified for that tournament because they lost to Alabama. But I would hope that Alabama would represent the SEC well in a tournament to challenge for the NATIONAL TITLE.

Every year since BCS started I have been watching very few bowl games. When BCS started I watched alot of bowls games and now - I only watched my MWC games except I missed WYO game. I hope a lot of you guys doing the same. It just getting boring about this BOWL STUFF. I still like March Madness but BcS?

The author is right, there is absolutely NO chance the BCS will suddenly decide they have been wrong for all these years and kick one of their own out and let the MWC in. If Utah and TCU want to become BCS schools they need to join a BCS conference. Or, miracles of miracles, Congress will eliminate the whole BCS and the NCAA will implement a playoff system. But don't hold your breath waiting for any of this to happen.

Cougar Fan for Life

I agree, the author is right, however, the pressure felt on the AQ schools will not result in the MWC being added as a seventh conference. More likely, it will result in the three AQ conferences that have fewer than 12 teams expanding with the sole purpose of weakening the non-AQ conference resumes and maintaining the status quo.

Unfortunately there are only three spots available, one in the Big 10 and two in the Pac 10 and I fear that BYU might be left without a chair when the music stops (primarily due to the no play on Sunday rule). Don't doubt that there won't be pressure on Notre Dame to join a conference to continue to be included.

Boise State definitely will be left out, but even with a new MWC that includes the Cougars and the Broncos the Y will be on the outside looking in for respect every year.

BCS not national championship

They call it the BCS national championship game for a reason. It is not offically an national championship and it never will be. Its the BCS version of the national championhsip. As far as I'm concerned the BSU-TCU game is every bit a as much national championship as the BCS version. The BCS maybe the most dysfunctional intitution in America and this is coming from a big time PAC 10 and SEC fan. If they can rip down the Berlin wall why can't we pull down this shame of a BCS wall.

As sad as it is to say, unless this situation is brought to court, things will likely not change. It amazes me that these 'back room' good 'ol boy deals are still around--and I live in the South. Sadly, the BCS "Elite" (and I use that term satirically) will focus on Cincy's loss to FL as their coup de grace--not how other MWC teams totally spanked larger conference opponents.

Agreed--they could not suffer another SEC spanking with Jerry Hughes vs. Timmy Gator Tears.

Boycott...

I'm boycotting the 'nc' game...hope you do too. I seriously can't get excited about it because there's no way to know those teams are the best teams.

the best

game of the season will be TCU-BSU. Oh sure, there will be folks out there who will watch FLorida/Alabama, but the more meaningful game will be the battle of two unbeaten teams. Enuf said.

Thanks for the article. Man, the BCS system makes me livid.

Is there a law forcing you to be in the BCS? If you can do it better, quit whining and create your own conference. If Utah only worried as much about the academic status of their universities.

Boise Fan

None of this really matters, because next year when the BCS expands, the WAC will be the conference to join. Also, I'm man enough to go on these boards and give props to TCU and the MWC if they should happen to beat us on Monday. I wonder how many of you BSU haters will show up on Tuesday morning and congratulate Boise and the Wac on their victory over TCU? It will be interesting to see who is man enough to give BOISE props on Monday.

Proposing the the MWC be an AQ conference doesn't fix the problem. This year is proof enough - what would be different this year if the MWC were an AQ school other than money? TCU still wouldn't have a chance at the title. Plus what if Cincy had won? We'd have 3 unbeatens. We need a 16 team playoff - it's that simple. By far Dan Wetzel's version is the best. It would guarantee the winner of the MWC a spot in the playoff and from there they would have a chance to prove their metal on the field. They win, they get the $$$$. That's how is should be decided. On the field. The system even would allow for the MWC to get its champ in the playoff as well as an additional team via an at large bid.
We don't need the MWC to be an AQ conference we need a guaranteed spot in a 16 team playoff. A 16 team playoff gets the MWC conference a seat at the table and lets teams prove on the field who is the real Champ.

To Douglas,

Not going to happen in this lifetime. The MWC best chance is to join the BCS Conferences and get their share of the pie.

NYer

The idea for a 16 team playoff is lame. I like how college football is unique among American sports leagues in that it has a hugely meaningful regular season. The other leagues with big playoffs perform a trade - they take away excitement from the regular season to add it to the very end. The overall excitement is mostly the same. At the end of this year there would only be a need for one extra game - the winner of the Fiesta Bowl vs. the winner of the BCS national championship game. At most the system needs a plus one championship and not a 16 team playoff. And it would be cool if teams challenged themselves with their nonconference schedules.
