Abouo has turned into a turnover a minute man.
I didn't know there was an Eastern New Mexico University. I'd rather see the Y play more teams like Arizona. That was a good game.
The Cougars want to play more games like that. The problem is none of those teams will play in Provo, including Arizona. That return game next year is at EnergySolutions. BYU can't get the top teams to come to the Marriott Center.
The Byu team plays better when they are not in the rankings. They need to continue to have something to prove to stay sharp. It is just the way they are.
Go Cougars.
Tonight's game was a last-minute scheduling fill-in to avoid going nine days without a game just before opening conference play against UNLV.
why won't they play in the Marriott center?
Playing our non-conference schedule is not very fun to watch. Whether we need to be more battle tested or not, this is not fun to watch. I don't know much about rankings and things, but wouldn't we be better off playing a tough schedule to help our players be ready for tough games. The Utes can do it, so we should too. If I'm wrong, please explain.
People, get real. They've been taking finals and celebrating Christmas with their families so they haven't been able to practice as much. Hence, they just wanted to schedule a team at this time to help keep them sharp but for whom they didn't need a lot of prep. Smart scheduling. Of course schedule bigger names (if they will come, which they won't) when you have time to prep for them but not during finals and Christmas. So lay off them.
Schedule, Schedule, Schedule... get somebody from the outside who has some connections. This is embarrassing on any level to have to schedule something a little more than a High School level program. It is very telling about how competitive in the preseason the "y" (lower case intended)wants to be. Rack up the wins on nobodies. Get into the Big Dance tournament and get blasted in the first round because they have no experience playing the better competion teams. Lame excuse that no one will come. Its a matter of connections and desire. Shame on the A.D, the Coach and anyone else that put this years slightly better than division II preseason together. This team, school, and fans deserves better from its admistrators. Go "y"!lowere case intended until they step up with a better preseason schedule.
Dear Hairypatch. You can't schedule a team who won't play you. That is something which is totally and absolutely lost on you. You cannot force another team to play you if they wont't put you on their schedule. You obviously have not clue as to how far ahead a schedule is planned. The "BIG BOYS" don't want to come here. Why? Look at how many times the Y has lost in Provo in the last 5 years and you might have a bulb go off in your head. Why come to the Y and have an almost automatic loss. Try reading the papers and remembering this story as it has been said over and over and over that they cannot get the "BIG BOYS" to come and play. That is why they have had to switch a few games to the Energy Solutions Center.
The Y wants some tough competition. Again you cannot force a team to play you.
Wow way to support your team Zoobie fans!! Your arena was less than half full tonight. Very impressive!!
Hairypatches, do your homework, man. Look at #2 Texas barely surviving a game against little Texas A&M - Corpus Christi on the same night. A game is a game. The difference (at least for last night) is that BYU's bench took the game seriously, got some great experience, and logged the big W. Texas, on the other hand, took A&M-CC for granted and almost lost their Top 10 ranking over it. So HP, it pays to do your homework, look at the big picture, and admire Coach Rose's coaching here. He and his players did right by this game.
Looking forward to the UNLV game this week. Hope JF and JE are back for it. Go Cougars!
Who cares about the non-conference schedule? Just as long as the Cougs play well in-conference!
You can complain all day, but 4 straight regular season conference championships proves the Cougs are just fine. Get the tournament championship out of the UNLV home game and other teams might have a chance since no one wants to play UNLV at home either!
For those just tuning in, there have been earlier articles saying that BYU tried to schedule a harder Div. 1 team for this past weekend but were unsuccessful. To not go without playing, they scheduled this game.
To add to what "DEAR CLUELESS ONES" had to say, how can anyone complain about BYU's schedule this year? Last time I checked they played Baylor from the heralded Missourri Valley Conference (in the AP "Others Receiving Votes category, Arizona State (in the Coaches "Others Receiving Votes category), Arizona on the Road, Nevada, and Nebraska. Granted, some of them are having down years, but BYU had no way of knowing that when they scheduled the game. The same can be said about Utah's "great" schedule: Michigan is 6-6, Oklahoma is 8-5, LSU is 8-5, Illinois is 9-5, Oklahoma St. is a legit 11-2, but they just lost to Rhode Island (which is odd). BYU deserves credit for beating the teams on their schedule and attempting to schedule a tough out of conference slate.
BYU needs a schedule more like that of New Mexico's Steve Alford. Don't worry about trying to play only "big name" schools. Instead, play solid teams from BCS conferences and reputable mid-majors. The Lobos thus far have played California, Texas Tech, Creighton, Dayton, New Mexico State (twice) Miami of Ohio, Texas A&M (in Houston), at San Diego and at Hawaii. UNM's only loss thus far has been when they played horribly at Oral Roberts, a team that will probably win its conference. No cupcakes, no D-2 schools. Makes for better attendance and a team better prepared for conference play. BYU is close as far as scheduling, but Eastern Washington, Eastern NM, Wagner and Southern?
good win over a power house cupcake!
My fear is turnovers. If BYU has 19 turnovers against a team of this caliber; then the NCAA TOURNEY teams, as always, will give them fits.
I see the uties are out in force complaining about the Y's schedule. The uties will get some better teams becuase they know the lowly utes can beat anyone.
I agree with the post. It is finals and the holidays. Family first and education second. Be with your families and get your education. I likle the Ad and coaches thinking. Help the players get some confidence going into conference play.
Look at the big name schools and their preconference schedules. Who do they play.
We will take care of busines by winning the conference. Go Cougars
comment by nice croud. get a clue school is out. wait until UNLV. The Marriot Center will be packed.
