Yah I think it will be ok he'll have to watch for the usual rowdies, and all when certain holidays come up -- but with the added: Karaoke, video games, pool, etc., and assorted food & refreshments there; it will be a better place to go as opposed to just a bar with 'nothing' else ... Can't hurt as to any revenue raised re: in the sales of beverages offered, either.
First, Payson is five miles from Santaquin, not ten miles. Second, this place won't last a year.
It is distressing that even small town politicians have apparently given in to the modern craze for increased access to alcohol. This is not a religious issue, it is a community protection issue. Those who support more liquor licenses are ignoring the proven fact that the resulting increase in drunkenness and sloth would be devastating to this Community. Study after study has confirmed that an increase in alcohol use leads to increases in divorce, crime, and disease. There was a time in this Country when government leaders recognized this fact and valued the safety of the community over re-election bids.
For heaven's sake! Why would they unleash such evil on Santaquin? All hell will break loose now and the children will suffer.
Barbara, are you on this one?
Santaquin is a Great place to have something like this. I wish them luck!!! And cant' wait to see them prove "What I Think" wrong.. hahaha
Disease??
Maybe if Utes had access to more booze they would no longer hold the number one spot when it comes to accessing porn sites on the web.
State controlled business. Socialism in Utah.
This is not a community protection issue as stated by an earlier commenter. It is an issue of freedom. Freedom is not the will of the majority (or democracy). The will of the majority is simply a tyranny of the majority. Freedom is based in inalienable rights including the rights of Mr. Fisher to pursue his own happiness and acquire and own property and dispose of it as he sees fit regardless of the opinion of a majority of saints, a majority of devils, a majority of princes, or a majority of paupers. That he has to apply for a business license and that he got "the state's last available liquor license" is abhorrent and absurd. Is Mr. Fisher free or isn't he? He will force his liquor on no one. Anyone found endangering others while full of his liquor will go to jail (after 38 citations... but that's not Mr. Fisher's fault).
In the end, there is nothing, NOTHING, that will protect communities better than freedom.
Mr. Fisher,
I don't imbibe and I won't frequent your saloon, but I'll raise my glass of juice in a toast to your success.
I was going to say something about the ridiculous state-created "shortage" of liquor licenses, but Ragnar pretty much hit that one out of the park.
Hey Ragnar, hope you're sitting down 'cause you're not going to like this: If Mr. Fisher and his patrons would prefer to sit in his bar and smoke while they drink, the state won't let them!

If you meant state legislature is the same as one true church then you're right.
"Those who support more liquor licenses are ignoring the proven fact that the resulting increase in drunkenness and sloth would be devastating to this Community." You said there "was a time in this country" when government leaders recognized this fact... I think, actually, historically, wine and beer have been pretty pervasisive and accepted throughout Western and early US history. (In earlier times, beer wasn't even considered 'alcohol'--and isn't considered in the same light as distilled drinks in Europe to this day.)
I do agree that alcohol ABUSE is linked to all sorts of bad things. But there's also domestic violence and divorce in non-drinking families as well. And if someone doesn't want to support their family? They can be equally evasive playing video games, surfing porn or spending all their time and money on hunting/camping supplies.
Alcohol in itself is certainly not the end all be all problem. Often it is simply a visible symptom of other problems.
wow. its nice to see that santaquin is using their space wisely. i'm sure a bar right in the middle of main street will give the city much more "class".
and ya i agree with "what i think" the place is going to go out of business like every other business on santaquin main.
You folks that are against this bar being in town are crazy. I do socially drink but, the revenue that this will bring in will be astounding for the community. As you think this will be bad for the children I have a 11 and 14 year old that have nothing to do in this town. They can either go to church or pay to play sports. This town is not kid friendly and you are against a bar that if you dont want to see you dont unless you go to the laundry mat or get your hair done. (My opinion) is grow up and accept that not everyone is roudy when they are drinking. Go to city councel and get something in this boring town for the kids to do (ie.. skate park, swimming pool) and quit worring if someone wants to have a couple of drinks in a bar. If the truth was told you or a family member are probably in there have a couple. Then hiding in the garage to cover it up. Move on......
