Utah Fan

No need to speculate. TCU will dominate again next year. Ute and Cougar fans will have to settle for 2nd and 3rd place in the MWC again next year.

WinSum

I would think BYU should be able to "get up" for TCU. They are a quality team and "business-as-usual" just doesn't seem to be the ticket....

Other teams have no trouble getting up to play BYU....why BYU has trouble in this area is a surprise to me.....

All in all a great year, just seems funny / odd to me.

Re: Utah Fan

Never thought I would say this, but you're absolutely correct: TCU will go through the MWC next year like a hot knife through butter. If they can beat Boise next week you can pencil them into the NC game.

However, you got the order wrong: BYU will be second, Utah will be third.

WinSum, we didn't have any problem with TCU in 2006 and 2007. The Frogs have just been better the past couple of years.

New BYU schedule

Can't beat TCU in Provo. Can't beat em in Ft. Worth. Lets just not schedule TCU. We can talk about quests and NC's all year long until the TCU week. Then we have to settle for scraps. Let's bolt to the Big Sky. I think we can handle Montana.

Cougar fan

We'll see.

Right now, we'd all have to say that TCU is the favorite on paper.

But the games all still need to be played. Don't count the Utes or Cougs out until someone actually beats them.

Nobody would have predicted last week's outcomes.

To new BYU schedule

Hey Montana is better then half of the MWC. They could give the Utes and BYU a game.

Fred

If you took every athelete to ever come out of the state of Montana, and then gave them Joe Montana as a quarterback they still wouldn't be as good as half of the MWC. Nice try though.

It is not unusual for MWC teams to have a 2-3 year run at conference dominance. TCU will have it second year next year but lets hope that Utah and BYU can bounce back to regain that lead for 2011. I cant stand the thought of TCU thinking they will dominate the MWC like BSU does in the WAC.

Hopefully, the conference will continue to improve and a true tournament will be in place to share the money and excitement of competing for a NC.

Things will change

I believe that Bronco is realizing that business as usual isn't working. He made that comment after the terrible game at New Mexico. Bronco is just getting better and better as a coach and until we actually play TCU I believe we have a chance to take them down. They won't dominate the MWC like Boise State. The Mountain West is much more competitive, nothing like the WAC. I am stoked for the 2010 year. Go Cougars!!!!!!
p.s. Fredetter is a freaking stud.

Montana is ...

playing in a playoff system and in their realm of college football, like it or not, do VERY well.
I love watching a playoff system. Those games are incredible AND entertaining!!!

I am not a Montana local, or even a Montana fan, except when the playoffs get going, then I watch it.

Why? Because it has intrigue, a do or die mentality to the game, and I can follow a team like Montana through the playoff system.

For those who say its not good football??? Did you watch the Hawaii Bowl?? How about the bowl game with Georgia and Texas A & M?? Now those games were unwatchable.

I love watching BYU sports But honestly, I would rather see BYU play in a playoff system like Div III than sell out to the BCS because they want the money and so-called prestige.

I like competition, not hype and money and games against the so-called big boys.

In my mind, to care about who we play is buying into exactly what the BCS wants you to buy into---their system!!!

I say, Playoffs and bust up the BCS!!!!

At least, Montana has what we don't--a playoff!!

No one cares about Montana sports here...

Monsieur le prof

In sports, you've got to have the "horses," as they say in order to win. All the coaching in the world won't help a team that has inferior talent. TCU has had, for two years, the right combination of talented players and good coaching, as well as a few breaks. Kudos to them.

But every year is different. BYU is losing a lot of talent and may be in a rebuilding mode for the next year or two. If Unga stays around, the Cougs will be decent, but not unbeatable. If he goes, we may be mediocre. Utah should be good, but not great.

We all want to win every game, but that's not going to happen. The worst thing one can do is criticize players and coaches and lose hope. Win, lose, or draw, just be there to support the team!

RE: Monsieur le prof

Hey, we didnt have Unga against the #3 team in the nation and we still managed. Unga is awesome, but Di Luigi and Karia have alot of heart and took it to the Oklahoma's Defense pretty good that day. So if Unga leaves we still have a good set of Running backs. BYU fans have just been spoiled the last 5 years with Unga, Tonga, and Vakapuna in the line up. Those guys are hard to replace but its not as bad as it seems. Next year will be interesting to say the least. The defense is what I and the QB and TE positions is what I am worried about.

Cougarf@n

On paper TCU is definitely the team to beat next year, but a lot can change in the next ten months before BYU and Utah face off against TCU again. Depending on how TCU plays in the Fiesta Bowl, they may lose more players to the NFL than is now anticipated (like Utah last year) and injuries can deplete an otherwise excellent team very quickly. I expect an early season loss or two for BYU with a new QB, but by the time they face TCU the team should be playing well. Like I said, on paper the MWC should be TCU's for the taking, but it's a little early to crown them champions already.

Same old comments

These discussions are always the same, next year we should be great after solid victories over two mediocre PAC 10 teams, the WAC stinks, and nobody in other "lower" conferences can compete in the MWC. The funny part is that is what every BCS conference team says about the MWC. You could go to the sites and cut and paste Montana for BYU or Utah. Your only hope rests on Boise joining the MWC and giving it credibility. I am not even sure why this article was written, I saw the BYU and Utah game and if I were the zoobies I would be very worried about the future as the "rebuilding" Utes easily could have beaten your senior laden team in Provo. Also if the WAC stinks, play home and home games with Boise, Fresno, Nevada, the top teams of the WAC. They should be give me games right?

SuperYfan

Although a die-hard fan of the Cougars, I still believe that TCU is the new king of the hill -Mountain (MWC), and will be for a long time. It is the team to beat. TCU is now like the BYU of old while in the WAC and early years of the MWC. Look for TCU in the national title game next year. With TCU's success, it's going to have better recruits than BYU too.

What was the purpose for this article? Is it because Utah dominated the headlines with the Urban M. issue and the DN felt like something needed to be done for BYU?

"Hey, we didnt have Unga against the #3 team in the nation and we still managed. Unga is awesome, but Di Luigi and Karia have alot of heart and took it to the Oklahoma's Defense pretty good that day."

Don't flatter yourself...Oklahoma was NOT the #3 team in the nation.

26-23

26-23, all the excuses in the world will not change the score of the game. Utah will be losing many seniors as well but both teams will be playing for second place unless the incoming freshman can compete the way Unga did his Freshman season. As for the WAC they are very weak top to bottom. Look at the WAC this year in Bowl games they are already 0-2 and can finish no better than 2-2. The MWC is already 3-0 and can finish no worse than 3-2. The top 5 Teams in the MWC would have finished undefeated in the WAC this year had they traded places with BSU. Lets face it the WAC is just WEAK and you can see why BSU goes undefeated every year.

My spec for 2010

BYU will be 1st
TCU 2nd
NM 3rd

Pretty sure the article was written as most of the other recent football articles: to recap the season. It has nothing to do with the Utes, though I'm sure you'd like to think so and are probably convinced you are right.

Same Old Comments: this is the first time I've ever heard a Ute fan call this a rebuilding year for you guys. Congratulations on coming to grips with it. However, by the last game of the season, the rebuilding should be mostly complete as your inexperienced players now have a year under their belt, one would think, and certainly in a rivalry game anything can happen. BYU had a better record against a tougher schedule and won the head-to-head matchup. Will anything convince you that BYU was the better team this year. Didn't think so. Also, you still have to rebuild your D and receiving corps again next year, so I wouldn't pencil yourself in as number 2 in the MWC just yet. I'm not penciling in BYU either, maybe next year one of the other teams slides into the top 3.
