Does anyone else besides me think that the reason they put out this article on O'Connor was of the backlash that fans write about him here on the posts? I know some people support the guy but I think the vast majority of fans think this guy has done nothing to help the Jazz he has only brought fools gold into the organization( Okur, Boozer, etc) And I think it has almost hit a climax with the Maynor trade because Ronnie Price is not a point guard. Anyways I hope he finds a way to win back the fans because he has just made a team full of No Defense Primadonnas.
O'cooner isn't the worst gm, you can't expect every move to be great. He needs to start earning his pay, as a fan, I want to know, are the jazz trying to win now, or are they going to rebuild . It seems obvious, that its' time to rebuild, does oconnor have the sack for that. I think greg would follow oconners prof. lead, and do what he advises, so we'll see what moves oconnor can come up with.
i'd like to see a sign and trade for boozer, first, after that, trade okur to gs for magette (possibly likely, or one of their better players, unlikely), gs don't want magettes contract, they have three talented players who are basically the same guy.
Okur would actually fit into the gs style, a team that wouldn't utilize a more traditional center, they might really like okur.
you think this article is because of the maynor trade, haha, that was a good trade, the jazz are not a championship team, you don't pay 85 mill for a non championship team.
the articel was written because it was a good move, most people would think so, except for the one or two who post up here under various psuedonyms, making it seem as if the minority opinion they hold is shared by more people than it actually is.
oconnor has had some bad moves, but he's had more good moves than bad.
he's either got to get the team a defensive center, or convince sloan to play the young centers, and while doing that, get rid of okur.
ok, signing okur to an extension was a bad idea, but signing him in the first place wasn't. so thats a wash.
anyway.
Kevin has done a terrific job. He's managed to put a competitive team on the floor that almost always makes the playoffs. I see how other organizations like the Celtics and Bulls struggled with losing teams for years and years after there stars left, but the Jazz never really seemed to miss a beat (one losing season aside). I'm glad Kevin is running this team, and not the majority of "fans" who post on this site.
Everybody speaks how it took 3 years for the Jazz to be back in the playoffs post stockton-malone.
Whoopie doo.
Sacramento is improving now they stunk for 3 years or so
Sonics now OK city 4 years or so
O Connor as done such a great job that is why unlike Atlanta as an example, who made start acquisitions and good drafts, we have such a fine example of is draft picks pan out over the last 5 years...
Outside of DWIl, Brewer has been ok but really by his 5th year his career should be way more advanced by now.
Ironically the signings of Boozer and Memo are what made us the softest no D team in the NBA. Just think were we could be if we would have waited one more year with draft and better options. Now Memo and Boozer are the backbone of the softest bunch of no heart pansies in the business. Don't get me started about hustle no one other than Millsap have any. When you pair the slow bigs with Dwill (who cant get through a pick or stay in front of his man ever) we just don't stand a chance against any team who wants to get physical and hustle.
That trade will be judged by who replaces Maynor.
Get a combo guard who can play point with DWill, shoot, and defend and it will be a successful trade.
Get someone worse than Maynor and it was a waste of a first round pick.
The Jazz ability to pick first rounders is pretty bad. Almost as bad a Sloan's road record for decades.
Consistent patterns of weakness that last decades are a clear indication of an organization that either can't fix it's problems or refuses to fix them.
Yes this is a puff piece by DN to take some heat off of the Jazz organization. No it will not do any good. The fans are not dumb.
Show us results and we will have faith in you. Do really dumb things that hurt the team's prospects of winning and you are going to get flack and you would get a lot more it this were any place besides Utah.
It is not just OKC it is the whole organization that is about as dysfunctional as was PHO last year.
Show us you have a serious plan for creating a contender.
The key word is "competitive". The Jazz haven't been "competitive" since the Western Conference Finals no-show against San Antonio. They weren't "competitive" for the seven years prior to that, including the last two years with Stockton and Malone. Did they win? Yes. But they were not on the lips of NBA fans as a team that could compete for a Championship.
Jazz fans expected a Championship with Stockton and Malone and that team could never punch through. This bunch of pansies and one-dimensional players will never meet O'Conners expectations of being "competitive" and there are only one or two people who are directly responsible for that.
It may be only one or two people who whine on this board using multiple pen names. I am not one of them and I echo their sentiments. Doing the exact same thing over and over and expecting different results in simply insanity. Guess where this organization is at?
jason terry was in atlanta that time not in dallas.
man some of you jazz fans obviously know nothing or vey little about basketball and how the game,as well as trades, running a team works. Kevin O Connor is doing the best he can, give him some credit. And also,if you got Wade,Howard,Bogut,Redd, and a few other players some of you dumb dumbs mention youd have to get rid of half your team. Let Greg and Kevin make the decisions as they see fit, plain and simply put. And stick by your team if you are a real Jazz fan too!!!
do not believe it is only "a few" it is many many more than that. No one needs to believe the "xmas good feel story" or to be fooled
O Connor is one of the worst gms -actually in the entire league
by Todd from sa
Bring him in. He went undrafted and was the best shooter in the draft. He'd make an excellent backup to D-Will. The Jazz have to sign somebody or face fines from the NBA for having too small of a roster.
Some of you folks seem to forget this isn't LA, Miami, New York, Boston, Dallas, where there is an almost unlimited source of money, and places where today's players want to go. Kevin O'Connor has to be very creative in what he does. I am pretty sure he doesn't have agents calling and saying "hey my guy really wants to come to Salt Lake".
Judging talent is at best a crap shoot. Look at all the players beyond the first 3 drafted each year that actually make it in the league, not very many. The Jazz have had one lottery pick in the last twenty years, and yet have done a great job of finding guys that can play.
The Maynor trade was a business deal necessary to protect the long term interest of the franchise. Was Maynor worth 10 million (the amount they ultimately saved)to the Jazz this year, I don't think so. Will he be a good player in this league, I hope so for his sake, he seems like a great guy. But this is still a business.
I for one say good job Kevin O'Connor.
Besides DWill all he has done is find roll players and paid them all-star salaries.
We haven't been a contender since he's arrived. O'Connor like the rest of the organization is stale, same Ol' Jazz while the NBA has moved on.
You know it all bloggers are incredible.
"I think that was injuries as much as anything – we were always able to put a very competitive team on the floor."
At home... on the road that's another story. Can someone tell me how many times we've had a winning record on the road under Salon? Including when we had two hall of fame players not just roll players like today.
Here are my results in comparing Utah to Atlanta over the past five years:
Atlanta record–153-257; Utah record–215-190
During that time Atlanta has had four top 11 picks; Utah has had one. (And we all remember that the Jazz selected DWill with the 3rd pick after Atlanta selected Marvin Williams with #2.)
So, if you choose to be critical of someone (while having the volition to pick your own examples), you may want to actually choose stats that prove, not annihilate, your point.
Would the GM get 11+ years to build a contender again.
Would a head coach be allowed 21+ years to win a championship. Or better yet prove that his teams can win on the road.
Numbers don't lie! 2ND highest payroll, and 8TH in the standings. Now convince me just how great he is.
