It's about time someone wised up and started calling it what it is. It is New Years Eve, not 1st night. If you're speaking of 1st night, that would be the eve of January 1st, not December 31.

Good show SLC! Tell it like it is.

EVE?

What does that mean? Why is this state giving up all the names of national holiday's to 3 letter acronyms with no real meaning? First Night was just as ridiculous and what did that mean? I think it was more of a state holiday than a national holiday. It must be much cheaper to put up banners with 3 letters instead of 3 words. Either way its a dumb idea to rename all the holidays when it has only one real name, New Years Eve. NYE makes more sense than EVE.

It's now EVE resolutions, EVE kiss, EVE day, EVE celebration, EVE party, and EVE drinking. It really loses in the translation of the celebration. Maybe no one remembers how to spell the first 2 words.

Utah doesn't celebrate the 4th of July, a pride in your country celebration, except for the day off and puts all its eggs in the 24th of July pioneer day celebrations, a lesser event to celebrate Mormons. If the state combined the 4th and 24th in to one holiday they could save millions in days off pay to state and school workers. Even get an extra day for education.

Combining 4th & 24th

Just so you know, teachers, according to their contracts, are not paid for holidays off. They don't count as part of their 183 to 185 day contracts (Depending upon the school district). The districts just spread the pay over a 12 month period. Sorry no savings!

Just another note...

A lot of other state's celebrate a "Founders Day" type of holiday. July 24th is Utah's edition of it. Its a day to celebrate those that came to Utah and created Utah as we now know it. As for the Independence Day celebration, I don't know where you've been. The 4th of July is huge in my community and in my family.

I like the idea of EVE. The name, meh. But I like that the Alliance is trying to get people to come to downtown and celebrate the coming of a new year together. I see it as a great reason to head to downtown, celebrate with others and just take advantage of a chance to be out and about.

I like the idea of the three nights. Gives you more opportunities to join the community in celebrating. Hope it is a great success.

Utah and NYC

What a joke! Why does utah always feel it has to compare themselves. HAHAHAH UTah nightlife or New Years celebration is no way compared to NYC. What a laugh this article is. HAHAH
