She should have known better to be with 5 males. That don't look good on her.Not in lease one of them were related to her. But no one was! It's her fail to. You don't go anywhere with someone you don't know. And the men should have known better to. There tribal members and thay should have been at home with familys. What can anyone say there both wrong.Sorry for both side's? But the women, Should have known better. I hope everyone learn's from this.
This kind of behavior comes from the welfare state that living in Indian Reservations produces. Indians should be liberated from these places -- give them the title to their lands and cut them free from government welfare. We are not helping them when we continue to give them handouts. They want freedom and dignity. Give it to them.
Thats right lets not let people be the blame for their own actions, lets blame reservation life. This is the problem with our country, people not accepting responsibility for their actions, easier to blame something else!!!
The people in this hidious act need to take responsiblity for their own actions. Blame is not the fault of the Reservation. It is sad, very sad, that a minor child is involved. The three of the said perps are all of one family. My God what is this world coming to. Just sad hearted for all of the families involved. Very sad.
The result of government welfare. Navajo "nation"... what a joke.
Although I respect the Navajo for what the white man inflicted upon them, I previously resided just off the reservation and was friends with several Navajo. The claim of drunkenness does not at all surprise me. I once had a Navajo explain to me that the curse of drunkenness was brought upon the Navajo Nation by "John Wayne", his claim was that during filming of the John Ford movies that took place in Monument Valley Tribal Lands the extras (Navajo) were supplied with alcohol in payment for their services during the filming thus the start of their dependency as a tribe. Pretty lame excuse I thought to blame generations of weakness on the motion picture industry.
This is a very sad way to think of how God would feel toward these sick minded people
First of all, they should have not use alcohol if they were out looking for work or have a family or a job. especlly the older people that found them self in the fail. it don't matter who you think you are you can not underestimate the power in the alcohol. The day you drink it is the second you'll fine youself at the bottom asking your self, "what happen?". some people never got the chance. You see, I'am a recovery alcoholic, thats how I know. I've been there. some of us eventuality learn form this right now or learn the hard way. it's not all good or bad, it's just something we got to learn form on our own. Look with in your self, you'll know what I'm talking about.
this act, as in any act of violence, should be treated as an aggravation of this person's right to exist, and to move about freely in this country, Sure the law of society was broken allowing the minor to comsume alcohol, but the emforcement of the law is incumbent upon the elected officials on the reservation, not a couple of drunk individuals who think "MOB" law is justified. The law of society is the "Law Of The Land", and they should be rightly ajudicated for their crimes commited upon this unfortunate person. If the tide were turned and member's of her family interceded the results would have been gravely differnt and both families would want justice done their way, and the survivors would pay for their actions, to "society". And their freedom would be taken away, over a couple of beers.
This is about a series of horrible, violent crimes committed against a victim. Unfortunately, this happens among all demographic groups, even the well-to-do.
The common denominator here is that these crimes were fueled, as are so many similar sexual and violent crimes, by alcohol. Alcohol is a cancer that adversely affects all segments of society.
Why is alcohol being produced? they should not even make them at all.
I am a Navajo and to blame alcohol on what a person does is not an excuse to me. everytime I drank I knew at the time what I was doing.I also had
freinds that would try and use that excuse but they knew, yes alcohol will make you feel different but you still are in control. If you drink to a point of what some call a blackout state, then you should not be a drinker. I lost my father to alcohol(alcohol poisening), now I don't drink like I used too. I saw what alcohol can do to a family. In some ways my father showed me what it can do if your not in control.alcohol doesn't care what race you are.. To my Native people STAY IN CONTROL!! These people who did this to the lady should pay for what they did to her. They change her in ways that will haunt her for the rest of her life. Do the crime, Do your time, RIGHT!!
It is sad and egregious that alcohol and the reservation is being blamed for this truly horrendous crime. I live on the rez and know residents who drink. THey are responsible family folks who do not put others in danger. some have bad addiction problems and are in various stages of recovery. They DO NOT victimize others and abuse and beat on women. This is a horrific crime and the judge is right to keep them in jail. What kind of a mother would encourage her son to rape another human being--truly an animal.
Wise words to the rest of you in Utah, dont blame this horrific dastardly deed on alcohol and our rez plight. Plenty of us Indians are hard-working and trying to improve life for our children.
Used to work on the Navajo Rez in a medical capacity. There are dozens of Navajos residing on the Rez who make their living by bringing alcohol onto the Rez and selling it. (The Rez is legally dry.)
THe woman is a hero for reporting this horrendous crime!!! Don't blame the rez, don't blame alcohol and most of all don't blame the victim here!
What a shock to hear that people you know and grew up with are capable of such things. The actions they did are inexcusable and horrible and nothing should be used as an excuse. (Rez) life is however not to blame, life here is simple and enjoyable with family, who support and love you. Jobs are available to those who want them, life is like every place else, that includes the alcohol and violence that occurs. Its not living in Mussi or Aneth that contributes its the peoples own choices. Its sad to say that everyone's life change including their immediate families. Everyone assumes Navajos or all indians receive free money, or assistance, we do not get money on a monthly basis from the gov't we have to work just as hard as anyone out there and that includes getting an education to build a better life. So the majority of Navajos have to work and get an education just like everyone else out there. Can you imagine the cost of free money to over 300,000 navajos? impossible! we would break the gov't
I lived in Mussi for over 20 years and I know so many people there that would not even dream of doing these types of crimes. It is sad that all native americans in the area are blamed for doing bad things and drinking. So many people have good jobs, have left only to return with good degrees to help their people in the communities. My hat is off to the many good friends that I have left behind there. The family that this woman who committed the crime was not at all raised this way.Again, my heart goes out to all the family members of the perp and the vic. They have tarnished the good name of a family.
This is sad!
This is something i would be ashamed of this is not the woman who was assulted's fault i would charge Whitehorse and his mother. She should not have told her son to do such a thing to rape any woman. Joe should also be charged, if he really wanted and wants to support his family he should have been at home getting ready for work the next day. What are people teaching there kids these days???
It's a dang shame that the blame on financial struggle's and rugged terrains that the navajo nation as to offer!"but!" honestly is that really to blame? I know montezuma creek by heart! It's one of many small community's that's trying to stay above waters! The blaming game needs to stop! I got relative that reside within the boundries of this struggling town!I guess what i'm trying to say is a crime has been committed and justice needs to prevail!
Apparently this is a classic case where people with too much free time and nothing to do resort to venting boredom/frustration with excessive substance abuse, which breed trouble. Montezuma Creek community is in dire need of positive community projects and activites that promote social responsibility and character building to deter people from criminal activities. The people need to unite and proactively raise this need with their leaders to resolve their community problem. Unfortunately, the surrounding communities surrounding Montezuma Creek are not united, yet lethargic and not proactive nor reactive. This is a result of Indian reservation laws at work, asleep at the wheel.
