Play CJ, Bye Bye Boozer

It is a good decision by Sloan. Korver is still hurting...maybe he is not for us.

Sir Charles I think, is right about Boozer, the Elephant in the room.

Good decision

Um, Matthews is twice the player CJ is. Boo! Boo Sloan!

Henry Drummond

Keep your head up Wes. I don't remember ever seeing someone who came in undrafted that has done as well as you have. You've got a great future and I hope its with us.

The rookie mind games continue with Sloan. The team called Matthews its best defensive player just a couple weeks ago. Matthews actually fights through screens and gets up in a players face, unlike any of the other Jazz players. This decision stinks, another bone-headed move by the passive-aggressive Sloan. Glad he's not my boss.

Jazz all night

How can we stop giving Matthews playing time? He's the only one out there playing with any toughness.

Chico

The Jazz need Mathews to anchor the defense and set the tone with his hussle with the starting line up.

CJ works great bringing his go to offense to the second unit.

Sloan is flat out weird. Two games ago CJ didn't even play. Now he's the starter and Mathews may not play?

Is someone checking Sloans vitals to make sure that he is still capable of coaching?

Sh@

Back to the same Jazz team. Miles will slack off and be a non-factor again. Mathews is better. We deserve a better coach. I'm tired of the same old story, give us fans a new chapter.

frusterated jazz fan!

that stinks, I love Wes! I like CJ too but Wes has done so well for us, I love his toughness! I really hope he stays in the rotation, I think it would be a shame to let him sit on the bench! keep your head up wes, we need you!!!

Chico II

I Love Mathews. I also really think CJ can be a star for this team.

We really need them both, and both at their best.

However as a leader of the team, and one who "preaches" toughnes and defense, the coach needs to reward that behavior in order to have that behavior repeated by other players.

It was Mathews who has set the defensive tone for this team. He's been tough, defensive minded and has for the most part played mistake free basketball.
Sloan needs to reward that behavior not punish it.
Besides that, it makes much more sense for CJ to come off the bench with the second unit where he can open up the inside for Milsap with his outside shooting ability and take some pressure off of Paul.

Korver should only come in to make free throws, or in times when the offense is stagnant and they need a boost.

Fess should also be getting 10-20 minutes a game.

Sloan speaks of defense and toughness, but his heart appears to be far from it.

Uk Jazz

& just when you thought it wasn't possible, the Jazz's Defense get's worse.....

Feel v v sorry for Matthews, poor choice Jerry !!!

Less is More

Sloan is either getting soft in the head or has always been. He has it in for Carlos, wants to get C.J. in there so he can send one of two guys in the NBA with 20 and 10, again and again, on his way. Dump Sloan not Boozer, you can see what a team D- Will, him, Matthews and the rest were becoming. Why has Sloan never won, I can see it. He really needs to fight the desire to lose.

Ferg

The next time CJ Miles finishes strong around the rim will be his first. S-O-F-T

Cautiously Optimistic

Wow, I am generally one of those guys that rushes to Coach Sloan's defense, but this decision doesn't make any sense to me. Matthews actually comes in and has a defensive presence, rightfully works his butt off to make the starting position - then gets ousted when C.J. comes back.
One can only hope that this is a move to show C.J. why he shouldn't be a starter - but I fear that it is at the expense of destroying the confidence that Wesley has been able to build up since the first of the season.
I'm calling hogwash on the talk about C.J.'s length and blah, blah, blah. Wesley plays bigger and isn't afraid to play up on guys that are bigger. If the Jazz are going to win they have to be willing to play the guys that have grown a pair and aren't afraid to challenge.

re: play CJ bye bye Boozer

Korver is still hurting, so maybe he is not for us? LOL First of all, Sloan didn't make a decision about not playing Korver... had nothing to do with Sloan. Second, because Korver has not fully recovered from knee surgery, he's not for us? I think Korver tried to come back to quickly from his surgery, as has happened with other players coming back from surgery and/or injury. He was obviously pushing things, trying very hard to get back, but what type of medical professionals are watching out for these guys?

Andrew

Before the season began everyone was raving about how much CJ had improved, how hard he had worked in the off season, and how he was in the best shape of his career. We never got to see any of that because he got injured. But Sloan saw it. He saw CJ's improvement, and I think he's the best to decide if CJ should be the starter or if Matthews should be the starter. Sloan is the one who has seen them both and it's his call, not the fans who have yet to see CJ's improvement.

I really liked Matthews, too, but he wasn't perfect. He would play great some games, then disappear in others, and often it was when he was guarding a bigger guard.

The last game (against the Bobcats) CJ played great. He was active on both ends of the floor, and I think I finally saw the improvements he made in the off-season. I think as a starter we'll see a lot more of that. And with Korver still injured, we'll still get to see Matthews getting some minutes.

Jazz yo

Thanks Andrew for a voice of reason. There are so many couch coaches out there willing to blame Sloan at the drop of a hat. CJ did not regain his starting role on a whim, it was after a great game where he proved he can be an impact player. Wes isn't going anywhere and I have confidence he will still get plenty of minutes until Korver proves himself, and I know that Sloan will have no problems starting Wes again if needed. Coaches make line up experiments early in the year to figure out how to improve a team.

Nevada fan

Okur to start against Dwight! Any Jazz fan can do a pregame commentary. Here it goes: The ball is into Howard, and Howard strong to the hole! Man Howard just split 2 defender's he is just too strong and fast for Okur. Well any of you can probably do a better job, but you get my drift.
Matthew's just got hosed! I hope CJ has great game cause if he gets burned defensively the blogs are going to light up.

Here we go again

Thank you, Jerry. You've finally - finally - brought us back to the exact same team that tore up the league at the end of last year. Oh, wait - I mean the team that got torn up and lost almost every game. Before Matthews became a starter, the Jazz were 3-5 and gave up an average of about 104 points a game. During the first 15 games with Matthews as a starter, they were 11-4 and gave up just 94 points a game. Now, in the last four, they have had embarrassing losses to Minnesota & Atlanta and squeaked by NJN and Charlotte, whom they should have trounced - and gave up 99 points in the process.

CJ is a good guy and can have a good game here and there, but he is nowhere near the team-player that Matthews is. Like Matthews said, he may have been a rookie, but he didn't play like one. In fact, his energy and toughness made everyone on the Jazz a far better team. This is a real shame - the Jazz were finally had a chance. Hang in there, Wesley. We love you!!!

Re: Nevada fan

hahahahahahahahahahahahaha

I'm sure CJ's number one concern is lighting up the blogs if his performance doesn't meet "blog" standard. Some of you are really rich. I personally have no doubt that all of you would be SOOOO much better than a Hall-of-Fame Coach like Sloan.

How'd he get in there anyway?

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

For those who say

Sloan has earned the right to stay as long as he wants and to do whatever he wants. I would remind you that this is the NBA it is not an "Oldies" radio station.

The idea is to win. If your coach is holding you down and losing games needlessly then it is time for a change.

If your coach has 20 years of patterns that have consistently lost road games, lacked defense and lost playoff series then it is long past time for a change. If your coach refuses to stop doing the game losing behaviors he should be replaced by one who will try to win.
