...i wonder how long it will take for Orem police to arrest the roomate who fended off the attacker in his own home. We cant have people taking justice into there own hands you know.
Serves him right! Way to go guys!
Good for them. Way to defend their home!
Indy, that's not going to happen. People have the right to defend and protect their belongings and their lives when someone breaks into their home. We had to do the same in our home several years ago. Our local police backed us up 100%.
The intruder got what he deserved, people are suppose to be safe in their own homes and have a right to defend themselves, their families and their property but when they are not safe then it should be, intruder beware. this intruder is lucky that someone at that home did not use the weapon he brought to end the skirmish. I hope the Orem police department will find in favor of the roomates and their right to protect and defend themselves. FYI: intruders welcome here, dog food's expensive and running shoes are recommended. Bon Appatite my babies.
There is a myth in this country, perpetuated by the police unions, that police provide "protection" from crime, violence, burglary, etc. Police do not provide any protection against crime of any kind; they do investigate after the fact, they do try to find evidence, file charges, and bring them to justice. But the police do not provide protection, that you must do yourself.
Way to go boys....I know we should not take matters into our own hands, but Hey someone is in my house and has a gun... well it is you or me... I don't think it is going to be me. Way to go Boy's.....
It's good to have worth while roommates! :-)
... because a cop is too heavy.

So you're ignoring the deterrence factor of a police presence?
If you think that crime rates wouldn't change if the police disappeared, you're stupid.
Too bad these roomies only had access to knives...but kudos anyway.
It seems obvious to me but apparantly not to some that your comment is laced with sarcasm. Luckily the law is on the roommates side when it comes to home invasion whether the intruder had a gun or not.
Many college students do not lock their doors anytime, let alone at night. I used to think it was weird to do so during the day, but I now keep my doors locked 24/7. Provides at least a small deterrent -- maybe the thief will keep looking for easy access and steer clear of my property.

The police do provide some deterrence, no one could rationally quibble about that. However, the police are under no duty to provide any service to any citizen (except under very special & limited circumstances). Just because you dial 911 doesn't mean the police have to show up and do anything to help you. There is simply no legal duty for them to help us or protect us. We have delegated some of our responsibility to the police as far as policing/governing ourselves, that doesn't mean that we can't exercise those delegated powers ourselves. In my opinion we all have a moral duty to provide for our own protection. It is the lack of responsibility and accountability for this duty that has led us to our sorry state of dependence (which is obviously not a state of freedom). The police have a legitimate role in our society, but I despise the increased militarization trend that law enforcement is headed toward with an accompanying "comply or get Tazed" mentality. That's called a police state. I don't wish me or my family to live in one.
there are a few things to remember if you have to shoot an intruder:
NEVER shoot a man in the back.
ALWAYS shoot to kill because a dead man tells no lies.
MOST IMPORTANTLY, If you hear an intruder breaking in be sure he is all the way inside your home before you shoot, if he falls in the doorway drag him back in so there are is no guessing on the intruders intent.
