Fascinated outsider

I have always been fascinated with Ancient Egypt, and I am happy to see that BYU is involved in excavations there. Way to go Drs Griggs and Muhlestein. Keep up the great work.

Sister Ramirez

We enjoyed listening to Brother Griggs' firesides while we attended the small congregation in Cairo. I wish him every success in his work and I look forward to the report of their findings.

Campus

For 99% of BYU, the campus is their world. Thanks for describing how the other 1% live.

Frank

Ref: Campus @ 4:05. Speak for yourself. I know first hand of Many who go around the world to learn and teach, and it far exceeds your 1%. Is is just too bad that you don't get out much or have many friends. I have spent 9 years in Europe learning and my daughter went to China twice with many students. Wake up and smell the world.

@Campus

You're just another hater. BYU has an extremely high percentage of students that speak a foreign language (more than 75%) and a significant number of BYU students have experience living in foreign countries.

Please go back to your basement and wait for your Mom to bring you your dinner.

couldnt resist the bitter little dig could you
Ironically having attended 8 different universities for a variety of reasons; I found BYU to be the most open in terms of world experiences because most of the studentbody is not local and even those that are have generally traveled extensively

re: @Campus

I thought Max Haal and others like him and you were the haters?

I'm the lover of all that is good report...too bad I can't find it in the DN.

IndependantLiberal

I was a bit frustrated with your article as you failed to date the pyramids, mummies or the “Christian Burial Grounds”. What evidences? It is just speculation without dating. It was your second posting of this article. It didn't get any cleared the second time around.

hht

sincerely, what is a "hater"?

Bill

Fascinating project. The negative comments are disappointing in their narrowness. BYU students are exceptional in their interests and objectives. The percentage that go on to graduate schools is impressive. Keep up the good work.

How dumb some of these posts are.

If someone goes out into the world to learn or to live what difference does it make to anyone else.

Let me say this - I have lived and worked all over the world and the greatest place in the world is still the USA.

Even tho the present administration thinks that we have been a bad people/government in the past, I never have met ANYONE who did not want to live in the USA or at least have what the USA offers - no not one person.

My we go forth and offer the AGENCY that we have.

I think that this is sooooooooo awesome and cool!!!!
I would love to explore the past like these people do!! If I could do my life over with the knowledge that I now have - this is what I would train to do!! I love history and the answers that can be found there! I can't wait (though I realize that I have to) until their report comes out (for the person who complained about there not being "FACTS" maybe you should have read better sence they stated that they were waiting for the report to come out to get those facts out) I will want to read their findings for sure and wish them all of God's blessings in their work!

How about some photos?

IndependentLiberal - you're right, the article didn't give any dates, but the Pyramid is linked to Snefru through a stele they found. Snefru reigned 2575-2551 BC. They've also found plenty of pottery supporting the dating of the Christian Burials. Dr. Griggs has actually written a book about it.

I agree w/ 8:48am post

I found people to be very open and very diverse. When I was a student I had friends who were Baptist, Catholic, Iranian, and from all over. In some ways I never felt like I left the East Coast. For any size of town Provo is very, very diverse.

The Egyptian government has open arms to BYU? Could it be because..."After a years-long excavation, done by BYU-paid Egyptian laborers to aid their economy..."

keith

Why are they digging up old cemeteries? We would not allow our cemetaries to be dug into. We put in jail people who dig in old indian cemeteries in this country. Are Egyptian inferior to us so it is ok? Someone please explain!

you're right

I guess you are right, Provo is a mecca for diversity. The 97.2% white race percentage from the last census proves it.

Brigham Young Undiversity.

Bitter

Bitter, no; Honest, yes. The truth shall set you free. Try studying at the only university founded by Brigham Young.
