the mtn!!!!!!
I hate the Mountain! Terrible coverage, terrible quality and terrible announcers. How can we get out of this contract?
I have wearied of trying to find BYU and watch them thanks to the Mtn. As a former rabid fan, I am free from buying BYU hats, blankets, seat cushions, etc. I now read good books, interact with humans, have lowered my blood pressure and don't hate red as much as I used to. Even better, lets take Utah and BYU, go to the PAC (where they can dominate and maybe you can watch a game) and leave the MTN network to twist in the wind with Wyoming, Air Force, Colorado State, etc. I'd like to visit the Pacific coast more often.
...if games are on The Mtn. For those of us with HDTV's, the SD broadcasts are just about unwatchable.
BYU should play in more tournaments to avoid the poor broadcasting of the mtn. Dave McCann and Andy Toolsen were much better than the mtn crews.
BYU and Utah should play home games at each others arenas so they can televise them.
cb: an original idea. I like it.
The poor excuse of a TV network called The Mtn is another reason that Utah and BYU should get out of the Mountain West ASAP. If the PAC-10 or Big 12 come calling, take it. Even if the two schools end up in different major conferences the rivalry would continue.
When does the deal with the mtn end? Its not available to me... but I catch BYU on Versus,CBS C and ESPN when I can.
Why wouldn't BYUTV be interested in Utah's game? Maybe because they hate them...
Why doesn't KUED ever broadcast Utah games that are outside the confines of the mtn control? My guess would be that it has to do with the low ratings garnered by the runnin' Utes.
The PAC doesn't want a couple of dippy schools, and are not thinking expansion anyway! The Big 12- same thing. Little people with big ideas.
As a former Utah resident, but neither a U nor Y fan. I still enjoyed watching the U and Y games that used to be on ABC, ESPN, etc in years past. Can't believe the MTN provides better national coverage.
Check your facts. They are talking about expansion, check ESPN... I like the fact that BYU is left out of the "obvious choice" list.
Why BYU or Utah would want to join the Big-12 or the Pac-10 is beyond me. They wouldn't. If you look at football the past 2 seasons, the MWC(referring to the teams not the TV network) has been stronger than both of the conferences. The MWC embarrassed the PAC-10 last year. This year, everything is playing to the MWC advantage: TCU is playing the team that beat the PAC-10's champion. BYU gets to compare themselves with the runner-up, and also compare themselves to undefeated Cinncinatti which barely excaped OSU. Also BYU started the season by beating a supposed national title contender. Mix in the games for Utah and Air Force, and the MWC could be looking very good after the bowl games.
The University of Missouri flat out said they would entertain an offer from the big 10 (actually has 11 teams and are rumored to be looking for 12th). BYU would fill the then open Big 12 North spot niceley.
If the Pac 10 (the rumor pops up every couple years....where there's smoke there's fire) Expands to the Pac 12, Utah and UNLV would fill the gap. Unlv would be a football punching bag, but they would get more cred in Basketball season.
I'm not saying it's going to happen, I'm saying it could. As far as the Holy War... week one!! It would be the the ESPN game of the week every year!! And everyone in the country could actually watch it!!
If the MWC doesn't get out of this STUPID contract with the MNT, I'am staying home along with my friends and family!!
BYU would never be invited to the BIG 12.
Utah would be a much better choice given its academics.
Unfortunately the first choice would be neither, it would be TCU. That would kill the MWC then and there.
The Mountain is the worst idea ever. At least you can get it Utah, only about 50% of the people here in San Diego even have the option to get it. It can't be good for recruiting either, I highly doubt anyone outside of MWC markets are going to be watching the mtn network.
So if BYU could just declares every game they play a tournament game, then they would gain control over their television rights?
How hard is it to create small single game tournaments?
We can build on this.
