This is Stimulus???

I'm sorry, but this is a farce. No disrespect to north Salt Lake, or to minimize gang problems, but this "grant" from the feds for a police officer -- what does that have to do with stimulating the faltering economy, which was the ostensible purpose of the so-called Democrat stimulus bill? What happens when the grant dries-up? Will they fire the new policeman? Or want continued federal funding??? The stimulus should be about creating jobs, cutting taxes and regulation of small business. We now see that it was a huge slush-fund to pay for all kids of stuff.

Thanks too the divorce racket, and father's kept out of the life of their kid's, by the radical feminist movement, the GOP and Demo's to, gangs take over the roll of their new sugar daddy, and, crime sores upward. If marriage could be eliminated in this country leaving only the never married, the divorced and the cohabitating a majority of Americans would still approve of the job Obamanation is doing. Even in Utah. Now, another "slush-fund" - "trust fund" flys their way, this time in North Salt Lake, to get stimulus funds to combat gangs, because of their I, Me and My generation, that boast loudly "Family First" and won't help out Father's to stay with their kid's, even after a divorce. That's sad for them Mormon's there. Hatch and Benett should of gave that money back, to help out the needy, the poor, the hungry, the homeless, the disabled, the elderly, not a larger local government in that police GOP state. You voters of Utah make me puke. That's our money YOUR spending, not yours. Your all two-faced lires to. GOP / Red State - HA.

Re: MormonConservative

I think I figured out the problem with the economy...instead of people sitting home and complaining about what Utah is doing, how about getting a job and learning how to spell, not to mention the grammar errors all over. Your dreadful "paragraph" was worthless. Wait, I have an idea that could stimulate the economy, get a job and go back to school. If we had people that could put together a decent paragraph we wouldn't have the problems we have now.

Lets call Foxboro by its real name "Roseboro" then it all makes sense.

$175,000 to create a single job for 2 years...that's efficient. Still, it's a heck of a lot better than the $251,000 that their spending on each 3 month job that they're predicting will be created, or the half-million per job actually created seeing as how after all the counting errors we're almost 50% on track. At least Obama finally came to his senses calling on the private sector to create jobs since the government has no resources left...that is, until 2 days later when he realized he still had resources left from bailing out the banks. One thing he forgot though, that was loan money, to be paid back, as opposed to stimulus money, which when spent is gone until however long it takes us to pay it back in taxes. But hey, future resources are still resources. I guess he did better in law than economics. When's he gonna figure out that as soon as you quit extending unemployment benefits and paying people more for not working than for working that maybe they will take a lower paying job and contribute to society instead of collecting unemployment?

Yeah, that really shouldn't be classified as stimulus. You could call it a local federal temp job.

The Stimulus ROI on this one will be far less than the cost of the actual investment, which we will all be paying back for years.

Stimulus should be used to invest in things, should be used to stimulate projects that will actually put more money into the economy than the amount put out.

These gangs developing are not because of local fathers not being around. It is a component, but the issue is parents are bringing their kids up here to get them away from gangs.

What they are doing is bringing the gangs up here.

I agree with Lori, we haven't seen the real thing yet, but it is coming.

I hope they bring a gang officer up from California rather than send a Utah officer to a seminar and pretend he has the expertise. If you want to prevent Utah from becoming Southern California, we need people with the experience to handle it. Not a Utah officer who is adding "gangs" to sitting in radar traps and meeting his buddies for lunch.

This is serious, and could save the life of your baby in 10 years...

Actually, the problem of gang grafitti has improved considerably since we organized the neighborhood watch. I personally haven't seen a gang tag in my area for months. It was a lot worse in 2008.

This also might be due to the faltering economy, which in turn has caused many of the Surenos who moved into the neighborhood for local jobs to leave.

Whatever the case, the officer will be welcome but I would rather have not set a record peacetime federal budget deficit in order to get him here.

The real deal is here. Our gangs are offshoots of those in L.A.. Just ask an officer that works for one of the gang task forces in the counties along the Wasatch front.
