Good Job Gov., I just hope that its not too little too late. The Dems have a way of doing anything they want when they want. Couldn't we just have the locks changed over a weekend.
I hope this is delayed forever.
It is ridiculous that Utah is being forced to take radioactive material so Energy Solutions can make a profit. If the general public doens't want the stuff we shouldn't be required to take it. Energy Solutions is raping the land for our Children!
Put the Utah National Guard at the state line and turn around any arriving shipments and send them back. That's what the guard is for, and why you're their Commander in Chief.
Nevada will not take it, why should we?
If there is any risk, why are we taking this stuff. What kind of people would accept this hazard for their children and grandchildren so that some among them could fill their pockets with money?
I agree with "Good start, gov".
This shipment should never cross the state border.
Send it back to where it came from.
A politician that hasn't been purchased by Energy Solutions.
Too bad Porter Rockwell is not alive to help us keep this out of Utah.
Way to go Guv. You're doing a great job.
Can anybody please tell me what risk this waste is going to impose on any of us personally? I am trying to be more informed. All I know is that this will be disposed out in the middle of the desert without any civilization for 30 miles.
This turning Utah in to a world wide nuclear waste dump is a criminal act of endangerment to the citizens of Utah and everyone in its path to get here. Some one in our congress and the DOE is being paid off to approve such an abhorrent criminal act.
If other countries wish to use nuclear engergy then they should also be required to plan the disposal within its own borders. With this ruling by the DOE it opens the door for Energy Solutions to make Utah the worlds nuclear waste dumping ground and an end to growth and development in Utah.
Engergy Solutions has lied and deceived Utah with it blatant violation of its contract with Utah and its limited disposal site. This DU will require an expansion of their site to include thousands more acres of land to become off limits to the people of Utah.
The 30 mile distance just got shorter by about 10 miles to shut down access to more land in Utah. We have all heard of the blast zone from refineries, uranium has a radiation zone and it just got bigger.
Thanks Guv! Depleted uranium is nasty stuff.
It seems the governor has things upside-down -- he is using politics to interfere with a science-based decision.
Transportation of radioactive materials has an outstanding 50 year safety track record.

You personally, not much. Your kids, grandkids, etc? Probably pretty severe.
As, when the containers are no longer monitored by Energy solutions (The radiation will be around 10,000 years and only increase) and those tons of depleted uranium seep out into your soil, your heirs will be very, very sick.
But hey! Let's hear how radiation is GOOD for us from the Energy solution posters!
and leave this state. We don't want you or need you! Get the sign and advertising off from the basketball arena the Jazz play in and put it on something in South Carolina! See ya! Adios-Goodbye!
You people act like "risk" is the worst possible thing that could exist. There are risks all around us. Not exploring nuclear energy options is a risk.
Abject fear and panic-mongering doesn't seem like a rational response to a form of energy that could radically reduce greenhouse emissions. I would imagine that in 10,000 years science will have come up with some solutions to dealing with depleted uranium.
Why all the hysteria over a bonanza that no one else is smart enough to profit from. Utah stands to benefit like the oil barrons of the middle east from our desert resource. Bring it on!

Yes, let's create radioactive waste that will exsist for over 10,000 years to reduce carbon emissions. (Car exhaust)
Jake, I can't agree with on your logic.
However, in 10k years, when future generations can glow in the dark, I'm sure we'll have less dependancy on electrcity in the dark to resolve the radiation we put here.
I'm pretty sure logic is not a key factor in this discussion.
